Poll: Saw V

Alright, so I'm watching TV with my roomate when a Saw V movie comes up and states that it will be the best and final and we both got excited. He got excited because it said it was going to be the best, while I got excited because it said it was the final. Seriously, what the hell is up with people liking Saw movies? I saw the first two and thought, "hm...it's the same movie, but this time I expected everything that was so new and exciting about the first one. Surely they won't be able to make another one (let alone another three) and still make money".
Obviously I was sadly mistkaen.
So I was wondering what you guys' opinions were on the franchise. I personally believe they are not sequels but remakes of a movie which was more or less a snuff film. It is not clever (as I have heard one person say), it is not scary (bloody is not scary), and it is no longer original.

Horror films used to be good because they left so much in your imagination - like when reading a book I guess. Nowadays, they've got enough money for CGI and prosthetics so it looks as real as possible. Not scary, not disturbing, but amusing. The same way it's amusing when someone gets hacked to pieces on South Park.

Sadly, it's not amusing enough for me to go to watch another Saw film, or give a shit about it.

I've watched the first 2 Saw films and I thought the first one was maybe average at best and then the second wasn't any better and i just turned the third one off part way through. I think they're just doing what is been done with movies like Scary Movie and the others like it, just making them to attempt to get more money even though the movies are just crap now and I agree with what was said before that they have run out of ideas.

Anyway, I saw the first and liked it. It was different at the time and sent shivers up and down my spine. It had everything Saw 2 had not: a somewhat logical plot that even had something of a point and it was actually INTENSE, by means of creating subtile horror, an idea all the subsequent movies happily abandoned.

Just think about it: In Saw, the whole point of the situations Jigsaw created gave the victims a choice - if they were willing to endure really great pain, they could escape and live on. In Part 2, however, there was no such element, despite the movie claiming Amanda being Jigsaw's protegee. This rendered Saw 2 not only weak, but also borderline snuff - a line all subsequent incarnations of the franchise crossed. And that's not for me.

Yeah, kidding. They're just torture porn, which appeals to a surprisingly (and shockingly) large market. Hence mainstream adverts for a film which is, to all extents and purposes, people getting mutilated for no good reason over a feature length film.

You can just imagine some twisted sadist getting off to this stuff in the audience. Eurgh..

Quite to the contrary, the gore is hardly what keeps me watching the Saw series. Its the psychological aspects of the movie that keep me entertained. As far as the 'torture' segments go, the most interesting thing about those is that they are all things you do to yourself. The people are being put in extreme circumstances where one must decide to do something they would normally never do to themselves (or in some cases, they would, but now they're doing it to save their own life rather than take it or waste it).

The psychology of Jigsaw was also interesting in exploring his intentions for his acts. He does not put these people into these scenarios out of malice, but a perverted act of love for people as a whole. Twisted and wrong he may be, but he thinks he's saving these people from themselves.

Was Saw the best in the series? Sure, I enjoyed its "in the moment" style, as though you were just sitting in the room watching these people's memories and discoveries unfold with them. The subsequent movies have all had a more typical movie setup, where the viewer watches from the "god camera" perspective. Do I still enjoy the other movies? Absolutely. I got to see learn just that much more about Jigsaw and his motivations. Am I looking forward to Saw V, final or otherwise? Definately.

I think it's not so much people genuinely getting off on it but more people saying that it's their cup of tea. It's obviously impressive and tough to be into this stuff yeah?

I agree with the psychological aspects of the movie, but to make the same movie with more or less the same premise 5 times over 5 years?!?! It's a bit much

Personally, thought the story would have been better if Amanda had taken over at the start of three like the end of two had set up.

The first was the best because it was a surprise package. Two was good, but there started to be too many moving parts. Three was alright. Four was meh. Five, maybe they can pull one out of their ass.

I'll watch it because it's a good halloween flick.
