I just use the Arrow Keys.

I can't be the only person.

Though, that might be one of the reasons why I'm not very heavy into computer gaming.
Same here. I'm left-handed, so I always remap movement keys to the arrows so that I can use the mouse with my left hand.

WASD + mouse it what separates us from the primates.

I use an Xbox controller on my PC when I have to, but only when the game has tarded the controls up too badly because the game was originally designed for console. (oh, or when driving/flying)

I use a Wolfking warrior

It works perfectly although it's not enormously durable, it's cheap and does the job though. I changed the markings on mine to map functions in Cubase.

Not so, my good man! The Merc Stealth retails for $79.99 (Canadian), which is on the lower end of the gaming keyboard price range. Cheaper than all Logitech keyboards (ie. G15 series), and the same price as the cheapest Razer keyboard.

Really, if you're looking at getting a gaming keyboard, just figure on around $100. Not sure if that would be considered too expensive, but IMO, its totally worthit.

Yeeeeaaaaah that's pretty expensive. My keyboard was about ?20, and I doubt the ?65 Merc Stealth will be that much better. I stand with RAKTheUndead when it comes to gaming keyboards. Until I can reasonable afford the Das Keyboard, I'll stick with this cheap thing.

Ye fuck all you WASD nOObs ESDF ftw. I am joking but seriously WASD or similar type stuff is fine and there are alternate options out there. This is like changing the qwerty set up because someone doesn't understand why it is there.

ESDF That way you Can assign Crouch to the A Button Instead of the usual CTRL or C Button and its easier to reach the zoom button in Half-Life 2

I find WASD controls problematic because they are so unbelievably commonplace almost to the point of an unmodifiable standard. If it were easier to get your fingers oriented around WASD buttons from touch I wouldnt have nearly the issues.

So, It got me to thinking that a solution for this would be to modify keyboards. If you moved the arrow keys to the left side of a gaming keyboard and make a more ergonomic 1 hand control layout around that set of arrow keys, it would alleviate many issues that are created with WASD configurations like tying up text capabilities with movement mapping

TL;DR: Would you use a keyboard with a specialized set of control keys to the left of the letter keys if available, over standardized WASD controls?
I have a silly question: Would this affect left-handers somehow?
I'm left handed and find WASD fine, I never had a problem with it and don't know why people needed to "learn" it. WASD takes about as much getting used to as other control options, if not less if you use a keyboard normally and know where the keys are.

OT: Nah not really, but that's one of the cool things about PCs, you're not limited to control options. Just find what's right for you. You can always alter the keyboard setup in the game menu unless it's an extremely bad console port, or get a controller. (Has a controller for platformer esque games like Batman: Arkham and racing games like Burnout)

I use ESDF instead of WASD. It's easier to find by touch (because F has the marker on it for your index finger), and it allows the user to use WQAZ far easier as extra keys, because you don't have caps lock beside A.

Since the Days of Halflife WASD is the standart, because the arrowkeys arent sufficient anymore.

Why do people think I'm joking?
Damn, never thought of that but you might need a freakishly long pinky to reach the Number keys

My only input is that if you've only ever used £5 budget keyboards, keep an eye out for an offer on a better, branded keyboard, I got a £30 MS one for about £13, and I'm really happy with it.

It's like when people build an awesome gaming PC then get a crappy £20 budget PSU, and wonder why they're getting sucky performance, the keyboard might not be as interesting as the video card, but it's gonna get used almost every moment you're in front of your PC.

It's worth a few extra quid to get something nice, but yeah, you don't need to go wild. For now, just try something in the £20-30 bracket and feel the quality!
