Nope. That would make the already oversized keyboards even wider, and to left of those keys is where my macro keys are. Learn to touch type.

Seriously, that's not a flame. Once you know how to do that, it's nothing to get your hands back where they belong with your eyes closed.

I used to find it weird and uncomfortable when I tried controlling PC games using the WASD keys. But then I realized it's not too different from a console controller do to the fact that both make it so that the movement buttons are controlled by my left hand. Once I started using that mindset, I found the WASD keys to be very comfortable to use.

So no, I personally wouldn't want to change the way I control characters in PC games. WASD is fine the way it is.

Would you use a keyboard with a specialized set of control keys to the left of the letter keys if available, over standardized WASD controls?
NOPE :3 I find the WASD controls to be perfectly fine and I am glad that it is standardized. To playing a number of pre-WASD games and see how much fun you have with figuring out what kind of convoluted and insane control scheme the wild savages who programmed it went for.

WASD works well,
It's common for most games,
and has QEZXCRFVG and T in good reaching distance for easy use,
south paws have the Num pad that can be customized very closely to it,
So the best way to put it is, it's not broken so don't try to fix it, so saying that you want to have something better than WASD is like saying having a fixed camera and using the right analog stick for combat is a really good thing.

That's just my 2 cents

what about how you use q, e, 1-9, z, x, c, f, r, L-shift, L-ctrl, Caps Lock, Space, ` and Tab in most games as well. wasd is centered with these keys around it, at least as much as it could be.

What I'd love to see, is a sort of analogue stick/palm pad with mappable buttons set out around it to correspond with your fingers >>

I use my keyboard with a rotating panel that has 18 programmable buttons, which is really the reason such keyboards are made. You can program the buttons to be WASD, R, E, Shift, Ctrl and everything else you need for an FPS, you can set it to the arrow keys if you're playing a game with arrow key controls or you can even set it to the 18 hotkeys you use most in SC2.

I can use WASD but i prefer FDSA (at least with FPS). F = Forward, D = Backward, S = Left, A = Right (also Z = crouch, E = use and W = flashlight, everything else is standard). I started using this when my dad bought home Half-Life and had the controls setup this way. I only use the standard WASD controls in third person games like GTA and Assassins Creed. So i guess im ambidextrous with PC controls.

Edited to make more sense

What?

"Would you like a better alternative to WASD?"

Well of course I would bloody like an alternative to WASD if it's "better"! As of now, however, I dont really know of a better alternative. So WASD's fine.

That's interesting. I need to try that, sometime.

I grew up with Wolf3D, Doom, Duke Nukem etc, so I was an arrow keys user. WADS was like a god send, I even saw people playing Quake with a joystick in the interim. Remember holding Alt to strafe, people?

OT: Since I've been using it since I was a young fella, I've grown very used to it. But very recently, I've run into a problem with it. F3AR. See, I usually use Space to jump, except for cover-based games where Space is to take cover, or vault over it, or whatever. However F3AR has a jump and a cover button. And I use a Razer keybaord, which actually makes it a bit of a ***** to use your thumb to hit Alt, and my lil finger is for holding down Crouch as well (I don't like toggle crouch, makes it awkward to poke in and out of cover swiftly to pick off shots).

I ended up mapping "cover" to C, because it's like a toggle cover, not a hold down cover. So that worked out in the end. But yeah, other than that, no problems whatsoever. Although those gaming pads in this thread look pretty boss, might try one out.

Yeah...Gaming Discussion is not the place to talk about your "Screw wads". Though...nowhere is the appropriate place to discuss that.

Zing!
