Okay, so I've heard of SL and it sounded like a neat game. The more I heard about it, the creepier it started to sound. I don't really want to go into too much detail but I think it's a different(albeit weird) idea and many MANY people are members. There are job fairs, stores, and...brothels(so I hear(personally I think cybering is WEIRD)). So I say unto you fellows, what is your opinion on Second Life.

Well this fell away fast, didn't it? You're lucky I'm bored at 3:25 and trawling past page 2 to dig it up.

I played SL for a long time. I actually got addicted to it. It was immensely freeing during the angsty period I went through in which I felt completely ignored and helpless. In SL, no-one has to know who you are, so you can be what you want to be. I, for example, spent almost 3 years on there whilst underage, and no-one either asked nor guessed it of me.

As for the actual gameplay, it's boring as hell unless you make something to do for yourself. I built stuff with the content creation tools, and I was damn good at it, made a few dozen real-life pounds out of it, although I missed out on the big pay-out because I deleted my account before taking the money off. Over £300, I think it was. Ugh, hindsight.

Yeah, there's a lot of weird stuff, probably because there's a lot of people with anonymity, and the ability to do/become whatever you like. As a general rule on there, it's not acceptable to try and delve into someone's real life. It's just not done, so don't worry about that.

It's become much easier to avoid all the sex now, though, as the devs actually made a whole new adult continent which all of that stuff is being relocated to. You now have 4 or 5 continents altogether, and this new one is only accessible by those who have verified their age with the devs.

To be honest, though, there are very few jobs. The only real source of money is content creation, which you either can do or can't. If you can draw, animate, code, or model, you're set. If not, well, better get used to relying on the kindness of others.

Hell, I might as well answer any questions anyone has about it, since I seem to be the only person on these forums that's spent a lot of time on it.

I never tried it and never really wanted to but I know a few people that have played it and they seemed to enjoy it a bit. But personally I think it just looks like a playable advertisement.

I heard a little bit about this a while ago. But I'm quite interested now. I think I might take a look at this teen SL cuz I'm only 16...

For that you'll need a way to verify your age.
As far as I know from some people who have been on both Grids, the Teen version is inferior to the Adult version, simply because the adult version has a lot of people making good-quality stuff for it. On the teen grid there aren't many decent content creators, so all the stuff is low-quality/buggy.

I've thought about joining, sounds like a cool idea, but honestly I'm busy enough as it is with my real life.

It did indeed fall quickly with no parachute. Well, we have one person for it, a few on the interim and one far against it.

I personally don't know much about it, and I don't have any talent that is 'needed' for SL so I guess I'm also not going to try it. So Danny, I guess you will have to commandeer this sinking ship as the only one who really knows Second Life.

Eh, my bf tried, then wanted to burn his eyeballs out of their sockets...I just tend to stay away from that...Oh, and a good choice would be, "SL is full of epic fail, it fails so epically that no amount of win could save it."

Yes, that was my bf's exact words.

I know it because my ex-wife played(if you can even "play" SL) that crap. What it really breaks down to it people having virtual sex and competing in dance/costume competitions for fake money. The majority of people that a regulars are people trying pathetically to make a living selling fake virtual goods to idiots spending real cash on crap.

The graphics blow. The User Interface is the worst in the history of games. The animations are shit 99% of the time. It is what happens when a developer lets the players get involved. It is horrible in just about every way possible.

See? I am not the only one who says these things. EPIC FAIL.

In the end, SL is whatever the person makes of it. A lot of people are turned away by the lack of any kind of aim or perceived point to it. You need to set your own objectives in it. There are people like me, who played it and thought it was great, and there are people who think it's a...

A lot of them havn't even tried it.

There's weird stuff on there, like the internet. There's a fair bit of sex, like real life. It's a mix of the two. Hence the name. You don't need those skills to play it, I didn't have any of them, I just taught myself how to use the tools. They're dead easy. I'll dig up a screenshot of something I made with them.

I uh, didn't realize that this issue would divide people like this. But the score stands at 2 against it(epically) and one 'for' it(passively).

I'm a member, and I go on occasionally, though not for too long usually. I'm only really on there to build stuff, as there isn't much else to do (unless you're really into virtual sex.)

People who play Second Life don't have a first life in the first place.

To be fair, my life revolves around sitting at home posting on internet forums, playing guitar and drinking, but it's better than a fake life.

I don't know that much about it, but apparantly you have to spend a lot of time on it (similar to WoW).
At least you can earn real money, but still...
I'd rather have a real job.
Considering I'm not into MMORPGs overall, this game is of no real interest to me beyond a little curiosity.
