Sega. Never owned a Nintendo home console and never liked Mario much, either. Nintendo overall, if we add in the handhelds, though.

Ah, this old debate. I was all for Nintendo back in the day. Honestly, how could one prefer an anthropomorphic hedgehog over a fat, fireball spewing plumber?

Sega - the Mega Drive was the first console I ever got, and due to this I was never that bothered about Nintendo's franchises (especially Mario, not trying to flame or anything).
But Sega have since died.

If this was the SNES/Genesis days, this would be a hard choice. But these days, Sega < Nintendo by a length that makes the Great Wall of China look like it's the size of an atom.

There was once a golden age where Sega were at the forefront of innovation, with a combination of co-op classics, genre-bending original games and a console years ahead of it's time, while Nintendo just rehashing their old franchises.

Now Sega are rehashing their old franchise and Nintendo are... rehashing their old franchises. At least Nintendo give their fans what they seem to want.

For me Sega was for us arcade-bred, coin junkies; whereas Nintendo was for the more family-orientated, lounge gamer. After what happened with the Dreamcast, Sega are now dead to me.

SEGA were awesome during their prime. So many awesome games.
the real astounding thing is that sega basically made all their games in house. Nintendo wouldn't let third party developers make multi-platform games (with a couple of exceptions), so Sega had to make its own games, and they were pretty good.

Sega. Mostly because I spent more time on it and I was a little older when I was playing it. We had a box full of games for Sega...

Nintendo had an insurmountable lead up until about when they released the 27th Mario game or so. If nintendo were to get some new writers and get a new video game series i would befreidn them forevermore

For me SNES > Genesis > NES > mastersystem

For the most part SNES games felt more polished to me. They had a more overall sense that the games were targeted to being played on a console, ware Genesis games felt more like poor arcade ports. It didn't help much that most of sega's line up was remakes of alter beast and streets of rage.

I chose both. I grew up on a Genesis so I like SEGA for nostalgia's sake, but I think I prefer Nintendo.
