Hm, this is a pointless topic. There's nothing to discuss. Fuck no, of course he wouldn't be a good president.

...Jesus, are you serious?

I suppose this is the kind of mentality that got the Governator elected in my state. Fuck.

And that's exactly why I dislike our Idols-style democracy, it's just a damned popularity contest. Glad I gave up on politics.

The OP was talking about the lead singer from System of a Down. He's gone off on some solo thing, promoting some decent causes that'll never happen (like check boxes deciding where our taxes go, though I see the huge holes in that plan). I mean, the guy's smart, I'll give him that - came from a war-torn country, writes some decent articles every now and again.

That having been said, yeah, it is a popularity contest at heart.

would serj make a good president?

i think so!
I think not.

In Australia we had a well-known Australian rock singer, Peter Garrett enter mainstream politics recently. He was all happy to be against uranium mining and pro-environment in Midnight Oil where he only had to sing about it, but he's done a complete 180 degree turnaround since entering office, approving environmentally devastating uranium mining and deforestation. What a joke he has become.

Just because someone has a few lofty ideals in their music doesn't mean that they'll actually bother to put their talk into action if they ever do get some power behind them. Once these people work out how the world of politics really works, they usually either get screwed over or they learn to make hefty compromises for the greater good of the political machine.

No way. Screw that guy. He's annoying. The only rock star who would come anywhere near being a decent president would be Jello Biafra.

I just can't comprehend what would happen if Serj was put in charge. I'm not saying it would be bad and since i'm in Australia it doesn't affect me too much. It be pretty cool though.

Sure he has some outstanding moral values, but fuck no. He is a rock star, not a fucking politician.
True, he's not a politician, but we might be better off with a retarded monkey in a diaper than an old fart who's kissed enough ass to make it that high up in politics. At least the monkey would be direct whilst flinging its shit at the general public. But I digress.

Sure, on paper Jello certainly sounds like he'd be a good choice and I can certainly see how someone would feel that he'd be a good candidate after listening to his spoken-word material. I believed the same thing before I knew him. I'm acquainted with Jello through more than one professional contact, and... well, to say that I believe he hasn't quite got what it takes would be a nicely diplomatic way of putting it (not that he would run anyway). I can't really go into why, but... no. Just no. Not him.

Too bad he can't run, considering he was born in Lebanon [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serj_Tankian].

The president of what?. A book club?. Yeah maybe.

A country?. Unless he knows what he's doing, I don't think so.

Well, you never know, he MIGHT be a good president, we don't know enough about his political stance etc. to know as it is now though.

Though I am disappointed in Obama after hearing how he failed to hold his promise of admitting the armenian homicide.
And failed to get the troops out by the set date...
and failed to have any sort of medicare reform (So far)...
and failed to notice giving banks a lot of free money was a bad idea...
Anyone else noticing a pattern?

Probably not, he's a musician not a politician. Though, to be fairly honest the republican party would improve greatly with him in it. (Even though his ideals are entirely opposite to them.)
And I will stick with this opinion to the death. If I am to compare a man that's not a politician, a man with ideals that clashes with the very party he is in then he's definitely a better choice then Palin (and unlike 60% of the sheep that hate her, I actually have an argument.)

He would perhaps be A better choice then McCain. (who, shouted out 'Equality!' though he was a part of the people that tried to take basic rights from homosexuals) Who, may I add said 99% of the time he agreed with Bush. (Do I even need to state what he did wrong?)

And then we have congress who I won't even begin to name because, no offense, but the U.S.A has too much damn states. Basically what I'm getting at is that I find a better politician is one who follows an ideal such as equality, not a politician who lets it be overshadowed by their religion.

But, all this is just the ramblings of an eighteen year old Canadian.

I thought that the date set for troops to be taken out was a policy move done specifically to screw him up, I.E. propaganda?
Obama's set date is still a year away... Correct me if I missed something though.

I vote Ozzy Osbourne. It'd be funny as hell to see him up at the podium mumbling his way through a speech.

Ah Ozzy, how you have fallen.

Argh, no I know what happened. Obama's date wasn't the one that the democratic party tried to push while GWB jr. was still in office, and has already passed..
Sorry, got my reading mixed up.

No. Hes a great musician and has some very interesting ideals, but that would never meld into politics. He should stick to making music that he does so well.
