Whelp, time for another book thread.
I've been thinking about settings as of late. Most of my written settings are variations of Generic Fantasy Setting, with elves and swords and magic and that kind of stuff. There were a few in modern day times, and I've tried to create a world of my own, but I've never really thought those through. My 'safe zone' is in Fantasy settings, but even in my 'safe setting' I can't make my stories epic enough.
Now, I know there are a lot of you who dabble or partake in writing yourselves, and I wanted to ask which setting YOU like to write in. Or read, if you don't write. Modern day? Generic fantasy? Sci-fi? Completely made up?
There's a secondary goal to this topic. I also wanted to ask if you writers out there feel comfortable in writing in modern day settings. No varation, but in this current day society. I kinda feel restricted in doing so, because there are many, many things you have to take in account. If a character gets away with a certain action in a certain place, you can bet on it that you haven't taken a law in account that forbids that or something. Also, you have to study the surroundings of where the story takes place. People are going to notice if you just throw in a sky scraper in a remote village.
Short introduction, I know. But it's enough.
