When its "it your face" I find it off putting.

Mortal Kombat has become like this, but as a old time fan I doubt I'd play it for that reasons. Plus, I'm a straight girl so the girls do nothing for me. The cute guys however are too muscle bound and/or old looking half the time.... Or creepy.

Amazing its games that do without too much sex I find most appealing to play. It doesn't matter in the long run on the cute male led since after a few hours I block the fact he is cute from my mind anyway and get into the game itself. If fact, the only time it annoys is cute scenes when I am FORCED to take notice and one half the reason I skip cut scenes is to get over boring "look at her chest shot" scenes.

Most of the sex is poorly forced into the game. You see naked butt once or two and ask "Is that IT?", bored you wonder why you brought the game. I tend to see sex appeal forced into the worst of games as a "selling point" because its hiding the other bad things.

I have a simple policy of never dropping a dime on an industry I cannot morally approve of. If a game is excessively violent just for the hell of it, I'm not going to give the developers any of my money for being immature twats. If you're selling sex, same deal, I'm not giving incentives for prostitution even in a digital form.

Granted, if the product has some main focus besides sex or violence in which it does exceedingly well, that's something else entirely. Sure, Sheppard can score himself 2 seconds of nookie in Mass Effect, but that sure isn't the reason I bought the game. Sure, GTA 4 has violence and sex, but that's only dressing, not the game I was there for.

It's not even that I'm purist enough to be against sex or violence as entertainment mediums. If you give it out free samples, I'll browse, you betcha. (Well, that is to say, consenting sex specifically - if it were just violence or violence and sex that would be sick.) I just don't think that people should be financially incentivized for it.

Do not talk such balderwash. The search bar is an unfeeling creature, with no semblance of a soul.

No, sex is not a driving force in opinions on entertainment. Sex is only a driving force in sex. I have never been compelled to a certain view of a game or movie just because it promised boobs.

It's silly to buy a product solely for the naked woma-ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD

It's made me stare at the ad. But never persuaded me to buy or not to buy something. However, an overabundance of the same ad (PLEASE GO DIE EVEONY MARKETERS!) really makes me start to resent it.

They aren't being subtle because people are ignoring them,so they get louder to get the attention they need.Like that South park episode.

well that depends, no I've never bought a game based on sexual appeal, however if the product were, oh I don't know, something directly relating to sex then that might just have been a deciding factor.
I'm referring to porn

Oh yeah, you're going to fit in real well.
Like oil and fire.

Why is it trolls can't be subtle anymore?
Subtlety requires a thought process and patience.

Both of which (or, at least one of the two) are lost on most internet users these days.

OT: No, no it has not.

I dont know if sex has caused me to buy a product, I think that those sexual references are meant to affect you without noticing it. I know i have never purchased a game where sex has persuaded me to buy it.

Heres a story about an ad that had obvious sexual referances and made me look at the product it was advertising.
I was in the tackle shop yesterday and there was an poster for "Ugly Stick" rods on the wall(I couldnt find it on the internet, I think it was from a while ago though judging by how much of it was sun faded) and it had a hot girl sitting on a camp stool on a plain white background wearing a white shirt that read "Happiness is a rod in your hands" and the caption at the bottom said "We prefer them ugly".
I thought that with an ad like that they deserved me to at least have a look at the fishing rods.

It appears that obvious troll is, indeed, obvious.

Nope, never. I don't really pay attention to advertisements, and even when I do I'm not retarded enough to think the product has anything to do with what's in the ad. I only came in here to see if the title was indeed a Megadeth reference or just a coincidence. Now I know, and now I leave.

Indeed, it is.

Shame that he had to give off a bad impression on his first post.

Actually, i'm not a troll.

I was giving a refreshingly honest opinion.

Sex does sell. You only have to select a handful of recent games to realise that the producers think exactly the same. The opening poster has clearly recognised this.

With increased sales we will continue to get female heroes barely clad or male heroes that somehow ultimately end up with a barely clad female. The game creaters are obviously catering to what they see as a decedent society either no afraid to hide their moral downfalls, or one that wears the lack of morality on their sleave.

But of course, I was expecting people to read between the lines.

That's a great answer if that was what was being asked.

What the heck is this stuff?

I read one single book on marketing. Ever. And I can easily say this topic is a waste of time. Everything works in the subconscious; you don't often KNOW why you decided on a certain brand of product over another, and most of the time it's more about printing the brand in someone's head than making an instant "Hey, that's good!" impression.

I'm sure many of us are initially offended by a sex-based game. But even I'll admit that while most shitty games wouldn't give me a second glance, I was shallow enough to look up the Wikipedia article for X-Blades, to at least see what it was about and whether it was for Windows.
