This is the internet: Everyone here is a fat virgin and will die a fat virgin, or in prison for rape.

Therefore, people are all gonna say they are fine with promiscuity either as overcompensation to hide inadequacy (think "Brucie, baby!") or due to the fact that they are willing to try any level of debauchery to end their own loneliness.
This, or everybody feigns to be shining paragons of virtue, willfully pretending to adhere to ambiguously and illusive 'higher standards' to legitimize their own by lack of vagina induced self-loathing.

It's not that they can't sleep around, no sir! It's that they hold true to higher standards than all those pitiful mechanical sheeple!

Reading through the thread, the difference between kids who grew up during the clinton years and the ones who grew up during the bush ones is pretty evident.
what does that even mean? non-american here, genuinely interested.
Clinton was very much a more "liberal", promiscuous president, whereas Bush was far more Neo-Conservative Christian with the "only for marriage" belief. Leadership tends to influence populations, no less.

I do wonder, how do things look from up there on that imaginary pedestal you have created for yourself?

You are on the internet. Get over yourself.

I am not promiscuous in the SEXUAL sense, but I do "flirt" with guys a lot. That is, what people call flirting, I call MESSING WITH THEIR MINDS.

And if guys flirt with me, I just MESS WITH THEIR MINDS.

Yeah, I often mess with people's minds.

We tried that from the Summer of Love on. It's time to throw in the towel. The microbes won.

Do whatever the hell you like, rack up a nice count and what not, but if you start getting labelled or slag/slut/penis hotel or a playa/pimp for boys...erm, you probably over-shot the healthy number. Take everything in moderation, including sex.

I always like how people put their anti-promiscuity along with being 'old fashioned' 'traditional' and such other big but empty words, taking the idealised image presented in works of fiction as historical facts. Yet throughout the history of mankind it was rare to not have lovers, to not seek pleasure outside of your 'one and only true love'. Marriage was an institution, but outside of marriage there was whole big world to explore.
Most of the views on sexuality come from religious influence, it's what shaped our taboos.

Personally i don't care, i live to enjoy my life. I don't count my partners, and i don't want to be in a stable relationship because i find it limiting. I also don't care what other people do in their bedrooms, it's simply not my business. You want to live by your 'traditional' ways, fine with me, your life your choice, but don't ever try to enforce your view on anyone else.

I dislike Promiscuity, being the old-fashioned bastard I am. I don't see what there is to gain by having so many sexual partners. I'm bound by those timeless codes of conduct of honour, chivalry, and respect; usually things that run contrary to the idea of engaging in Casual Sex.

I'm looking to gauge the Escapist community on this, so please reply.
I think promiscuity (or lack thereof) is fine as long as it's accompanied by honesty.

Lying to get someone in the sack just for one night - bad.

Telling the truth to get someone in the sack just for one night - good.

i think it's fine provided you ar prepared to deal with the potential consequences (children, disease). If not, then you probrably shouldn't be fucking at all.

Ah, "hos" basically.

I had a friend like that. I've but so much respect for them if any, as I don't condone anything related to adultery. And before anyone starts, men can be just as much hos as women if not more - contrary to popular belief, the term is very much indiscriminate.

I'd ignore him if I were you. Trying to argue the point to him would be like hitting your head on a brick wall; it's painful and does no-one any good.

I realize that, yeah. Sometimes hypocrisy is hard to let go unchecked, but I won't press it either.

I hate it. I can't stand the idea that an activity meant to create new life is reduced to the level of a simple hobby like jogging or something. I think it should mean 1000x more than that and not shared with just anyone.

I believe it shows a severe lack of self-worth and confidence within any individual who chooses to do that to him or herself. Lust just shows what you lack on the inside as a person.

It's your life, do what you wish. I'm not promiscuous because I have a great girlfriend and she's the only person I've ever been with in anything more-than-friends.

I don't really see what's wrong with "promiscuity". It's a lifestyle choice. Stay safe, and I bet it's a lot of fun. It's a different kind of fun from having a meaningful relationship, but you'll always have time for that later. Some people just want to live their youth before they have to focus on jobs, marriage, kids, etc. Others are happy staying with one person.
