Before we start, let me just clarify that personal opinions are to be put in this thread. Your political opinions may contradict your personal opinions; you may hate promiscuity, but you wouldn't restrict the freedom of promiscuous individuals if you were President/Prime Minister/Chancellor/Chuck Norris.

I dislike Promiscuity, being the old-fashioned bastard I am. I don't see what there is to gain by having so many sexual partners. I'm bound by those timeless codes of conduct of honour, chivalry, and respect; usually things that run contrary to the idea of engaging in Casual Sex.

I'm looking to gauge the Escapist community on this, being the smart, intelligent and damn sexy people you are.
Well how about that. A fellow gentleman.

I'm not big on it myself, but I don't have too much of an issue with it as long as it's not excessive, and as long as it's not just a cry for respect/acceptance from someone with self-esteem issues.

But, since my attitude towards it changes every week or two, I voted "Meh".

SLUTS ARE SLUTS!

girls who sleep around disgust me, guys will sleep with you, but when it comes to being in a long term relationship, they won't touch you. Pointless tbh.
ah yes...the old double standard

The only issue I have with people who sleep around, is if they try to sleep with my mate.

Eh. As long as the 2 (or more in certain cases) are ok with it, then let them do what they want. If I could be promiscuis (before I met my current gf) then I more than likely would.

Although, it always seems to be the arrogant jerks that seem promiscuis so I'm not so sure...

Sex was once an expression of love, but nowadays it's just something you do to have fun. I personally think that's not living life to the best, and while I'll only be angry if someone's really obnoxious about it, I think others would be a lot happier if they took sex and love more seriously.
Sex was also once a shameful act only to be used to make babies, not so long ago. Hell some people still believe that.

I lost the right to claim I was anything other than a man whore a long time ago. I'm in no position to judge others.

What about "I am promiscuous and i don't like it" ...?
I brooded on putting that option in, but I realised that it would be idiotic to do so. If anyone is in that scenario, and undergoing a nice hunka' Doublethink, then they can post in the thread about it.

I'm not Promiscuous, because I'm in a long term relationship. I have nothing against it though. Hell if I was single I might even have one night stands, I don't really see the harm in it.

I'd prefer being in a relationship though, absolutely.

Well there's bound to be a sex addict somewhere here on The Escapist.

I personally wouldn't quite tick an 'I am promiscuous and i don't like it' box, but about a year ago i did have a string of meaningless one night stands that i ended up regretting after it ruined my chances with the girl i was actually into. So that comes close.

"So long as ye harm none, do as thou wilt."

In short, I have nothing against promiscuity if that's your prerogative. Find like minded people and have fun! Just make sure to play it safe - spreading STIs around is bad.

although I have to say - while I don't have a problem with promiscuity, or even with the people who personally believe sex is a sacred act to be shared only between two people who are deeply in love and idk, married or whatever, I have a serious problem with people whose stance towards the issue can be summed up in two words - "double standards".

you know, a dude who gets laid a ton is a player and whoa he is just so cool you guys, banging all those chicks. but ugh, girls who are into having lots of sex? what dirty sluts!
Right on, screw double standards.

I just think it's stupid, that's all. This whole "sex is sex" argument doesn't fly with me. Sex was once an expression of love, but nowadays it's just something you do to have fun. I personally think that's not living life to the best, and while I'll only be angry if someone's really obnoxious about it, I think others would be a lot happier if they took sex and love more seriously.
No, sex has always been sex. The "old times" weren't better. Whoring is one of the oldest professions in the world. Greeks and Romans slept with each other all the time. Some cultures had sacred prostitutes. These are the same "old times" that gave us stuff like "The Fisherman's Wife" (oldest tentacle porn ever!) and the "Kama Sutra." As well as the Marquis de Sade.

People had sex for sex. People have always had sex for sex. Technology has changed how we interact but it hasn't changed what we fundamentally are. We are the same violent, horny monkeys we always were. We just like to pretend we aren't.

Besides; one can have sex for fun and sex for love. These things are not mutually exclusive.

Why is sex still, in this wonderfully enlightened world, viewed as a bad (or immoral, shameful, etc) thing?
Because in this day and age something needs to be. Makes it more fun. It's like eating ice cream straight out of the tub. It's good because its bad.
I thought it was good because it -felt- good, and did good things for you emotionally and physically.

I wish they were as "timeless" as that word implies. Still, I agree with you one hundred percent. I was raised to believe sex is a special, something that you don't hand out unless you are married to the person. I know I'm in the single digit minority though...

I consider myself a Romantic, though I understand the concept of being open to casual sex, the truth is as human beings it is more natural for us to have multiple partners, before society man had only one goal and that was to spread his seed around. Humans want this, its only through education and environment do we learn to control this urge.

There is no negative effect of casual sex, if its between two consenting adults I say live and let live, though I would not live that life style myself, A victimless crime is just that.

A common misconception. A recent study found that of all the mortalities in the United States over the last decade a larege majority of them engaged in some form of Sexual activity at one point in their lives.

People do what they like, as long as it doesn't effect me in an adverse way, I don't give a fuck.

However, I recognize that humans are not inherently monogamous -- no matter how much the church has brainwashed us over the centuries -- and people will feel the primal urge to spread their seed to ensure their genes are carried on.
Not everyone has that urge, to be honest. For the most part, I don't and only feel that urge in very specific circumstances. However, I consider myself asexual, so whatever works.

On the topic, however, if I have a partner, I'm committed. Period. I appreciate the same from my partner, but I'm willing to forgive quite a bit. I don't care if other folks or promiscuous or not, as it's none of my business.

As long as you avoid STD's and, if you're female, unwanted pregnancy's, I'm perfectly fine with it.

On the social aspects of it, I'm not concerned with how much sex someone has so much as their expression of it; having lots of sex is fine, constantly bragging about it while wearing "ghetto" clothing is not.
Strikethrough added.

My dad was a deadbeat. Let's not put more kids like me into the world.
