I still remember my favorite line from my all time favorite game, "Never Make a Deal with a dragon." well in this case Kickstarter being the dragon, the deal was made and I hope it all goes well....

While looking for some images for a post called First gaming experiences , I couldn't help but notice something called Shadow run Online, being a skeptic ((I had backed many many SROs in my short 19 year life)) I was like yea right total bullshit.

SO I started Digging. Turns out Shadowrun ONLINE is going to be part of a game restart called Shadowrun Returns, which is also going to revive the Tabletop (Get Wired Mothafucker) game!

So I was wondering, what are your thoughts about this new revival?

Do you guys even like shadowrun?

ALSO link time!

Yes Returns and Online know of each other, and it seems to me they are working together.

Captcha: double cross

Hmmm apt...

I thought that Shadowrun Online was that FPS that nobody liked.
It also had cross PC and 360 gameplay. Yeah, great idea there guys.

Shadowrun Online is an entirely separate game and not a part of Shadowrun Returns. The latter is exclusively singleplayer.

Am I excited for Shadowrun Returns? Well, I regularly play pen&paper RPGs and I contributed $150 to the project via Kickstarter, so yes, I'm pretty damn stoked.
Shadowrun Online... meh. I'll wait and see, but I'm not much of an online gamer.

ive heard that but its usually just "never deal with a dragon"
Hoi Chummer,

Thats the short hand version The whole saying is Shoot straight. Conserve ammo. And never, EVER cut a deal with a dragon.

So SRR and SRO are two diffrent things, thats good to know. but since I love all things shadowrun I can't look down on them.

Thanks for the info, slot your credstick and you'll get your payment.

What I currently feel about the games can't be described with any of the 3 poll options, but semi-ambivalent "I'm willing to give it a shot" towards Shadowrun Returns. I'm not a tabletop gamer, but I want to see what makes Shadowrun franchise so good

Wait, it returns online? OK, people admit it - who cut Shadowrun its connection. Come on, I know it was one of you. :p

OT: Yes, I am excited. I love me some Cyberpunk. This year was filled with so much squee - Shadowrun Returns, Cyberpunk 2077, Remember Me (it hit that vibe, from what I saw) and now Shadowrun Online.

I'm so happy.

I laughed my ass off when Mitch said Sorry.

This looks good. I've always liked the idea of Shadowrun so I'll keep an eye out.

that was "shadowrun" a shitty waste of an incredible IP that even the executive producer appologised for on the shadowrun returns kickstarter video.

ok for those who dont know shadowrun is a tabletop RPG that takes the cyberpunk setting of megacorps, cyber enhancements and adds fantasy elements like magic, fantasy races, creatures like dragons etc. the basic idea is that everything was going typical cyberpunk up until the early 21st century when magic reappeared and long dormant genes started to be activated by rise of magic which comes and goes in a cycle every few thousand years.

skip forward a few decades and you have shadowrun where the us is divided into many different nation states, the elves have a few nations, where there is discrimination against orcs and trolls where the odd dragon runs megacorps and one even ran for president.

the player is a shadowrunner a gun for hirer, etc and as the original poster mentioned NEVER make deals with dragons
Played 2nd ed i think, my friends kind of dragged me into checking out a few source books, on the face of it i thought the whole premise was silly, but the backstory was good the lore was great the players were well defined and fleshed out with tons of room to add content and characters, well i became hooked, at lest until they all flunked out of school...they played a bit too much pnp games period.

Loved shadowrun getting into it, even checked out the nes game back in the day because of it.

Then often over the years, i mused as computer gfx got more and more advanced, gee it would be awesome to see a modern RPG set in the SR world, heck a mmo would be awesome. Waited and waited for any word.

Then one day i heard microsoft was making a shadowrun game, i was giddy i thought finally after all these years someone is going to do a rpg, an mmo something with that great IP, i rushed to find out what this game was.

Then i read the words "first person shooter", and i think i literally slammed my head into my desk repeatedly. Cursed the new microsoft game studios and every person working at it, and rued the day microsoft got the rights to all those fasa IPs like shadworun and mechwarrior two Ips that had tons of potential that microsoft gave a rats spit about.

So yes i am happy, i am extra happy about the SP game, i was only aware of the isometric mmo they were working on, and honestly not sure how much i can get into an isometric mmo game, but it I was definately going to peep it when it came out, but the single player game interests me greatly.

As others have said, they are two separate games. They'll have no interaction with each other, aside from using the same IP.

And I'm very excited for Shadowrun Returns. It's one of the four projects I've backed on Kickstarter.

I'm one a rare breed that thought the FPS was awesome. I had never even heard of the originals when I first played it, but it felt a lot deeper than most shooters. Obviously unfinished and without polish, but with a level of strategy that I really loved.

Yay.. a super awesome pen paper goes mainstream and probably won't resemble it's original by 1%.

I really love SR, we play it for years regularly, but as a MMO? This won't work out well.

I doubt a multiplayer game can grasp the finesse of this roleplay system. Also the hacking/magic layer which runs simulatneous to the normal world just alot faster can't be depicted in a realtime multiplayer situation.

It will be dumbed down to no end. Another generic WoW-MMO-Clone.

I'll watch the singleplayer though, that could be a gem :)

Edit: To clarify, i just think the market we currently have doesn't do a SR-MMO any justice.
You can clear missions after missions without a shot fired and without anyone bein' seen - that part of SR + the simultaneous tripple layer of magic/normal/matrix can't be done imo.

Your also forgetting "Never trust an Elf."
Which the first GM I ever played with took way to far. The badguys were always the pointy-eared tree-huggers. Always. Got to the point we shot every elf on sight.
With Shadowrun Returns, they have my money and I'm just watching what they put out about how its going.

I love shadowrun it was a shame when that crappy 360 game came out and it was nothing more than a lackluster multiplayer with only the tutorial as a single player level. As for an online game my reaction is bleh although returns sounds awesome hopefully it can beat the snes and genesis version for fun factor.

Nothing beat walking into Hollywood Corrections and lighting cops on fire as a Shaman, or fucking around in the Matrix as a Decker.
