So, I know quite a few Escapists are Silent Hill fans. What was is your guys' opinion of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories?

It was basically a "remake" (not really, and if it was, it was the worst real "remake" ever) of the first game available for Wii, PSP, and PS2 that came out earlier this year. It seems like it pretty much slipped under the radar and I never really heard anything about it.

So, what's the general opinion of it?

For me, I did like it and it was a good game, but not a very good "Silent Hill" game. It really has nothing in it that's Silent Hill-like. Even the town itself is very different. And it's definitely a bad "remake" of the first game, since literally nothing is the same except for character names and the idea of Harry trying to find his daughter. So, anyone that seems to have very strong feelings about the original Silent Hill is bound to hate it and everything about it.
Luckily for me, I have yet to play the original Silent Hill for myself, so I'm unbias. xD

But you guys? I'm curious about this since, as I said, it came out and I never heard much of anything about it from the fans.

Well I sold it now. It was good, I enjoyed the game, minus that art puzzle that confused me.

Also the psychological system seems:

1. Unnecessary

2. Unfinished/untapped fully

Games can scare anyone without knowing a anything about the person.

It's unfinished because the game doesn't hit all possible personality types, etc. It's just the different personality types Harry Mason may have.
I have to agree. The psychology never seemed to affect how "scary" the game is (which I didn't find it scary anyways). All it seemed to do was change the look of some characters and change the ending. Oh, and change the colors of the house and all that in that one particular scene. That was really about it, and I found that to be disappointing since they really made it seem like it was a pretty elaborate part. :/

I haven't played it since I don't have a Wii, but I heard from all of my friends that it was incredibly lame, and not at all scary.
No, it wasn't scary at all and while I wouldn't really call it "lame" (then again, I'm not very picky with games), it was kinda dull through most of it. When you aren't in a "nightmare" (aka running from monsters), then you're wandering around looking for clues, hints, etc. until the next plot related event happens.

So, yeah, not a very eventful game. An even less eventful Silent Hill game.

The way in which they designed the normal/hell worlds was a bit strange. In the original Silent Hills, you could always explore, no matter what. There were always many things to investigate, be it in "normal" world, or in the hell themed alternate world. You weren't always running for your life non-stop, and you always had the opportunity to investigate everything.

Part of the magic of Silent Hill's alternate worlds was seeing it's take on the original world it transformed from. Like revisiting asylum cells to reveal their horrid secrets.

In Shattered Memories, you explored a rather bland world and then came the ice, where there was nothing to investigate.. granted you even had the chance to stop running.
