I have never met anyone that doesn't take off their shoes when they go inside unless they are going to leave very soon anyway. No one's ever told me whether to or not, I just take 'em off.
If it's someone elses house, I follow whatever rules they have about shoes.
My own house: It depends on what I'm doing when I get home. If I am just picking something up to head out again (like when I run errands), then the shoes stay on. If I have groceries, or I am carrying something into the house, I usually take care of that first before I take my shoes off. Sometimes I just plain forget to take my shoes off until I am sitting at my desk in my office.
I don't have a set pattern where taking my shoes on and off, is concerned.

My house is very old so most of the year it is little warmer than outside (especially the stone floor) and rarely comfortable enough to be shoeless. Plus I am ALWAYS being sent on errands either to somewhere in the garden or nearby. Shoes go on in the morning and don't go off till shower or bed.
Plus in my life I seem to be surrounded by impatient assholes who give me shit for not already having my shoes on and ready to go do something. I do despair but it's just easier to always be ready to go as it's so much easier for people to talk trash to you than explain the error of their ways.

Depends - I generally take them off for the sake of comfort, but there are a couple of modifying circumstances:
1) Is there a doormat? How dirty are my shoes anyway if I just need to pop inside for a little while?
2) What kind of flooring do I have? It seems ridiculous to me to make a total fuss over ancient, crappy carpet. You can only ever make it so clean...
As for going into other people's homes, I will of course do whatever they wish, as I am a guest. As for guests in my house, because I have a doormat and the carpet is, well, a little elderly, they may do as they wish. If they prefer to take them off to be comfortable, go ahead. If they want to keep them on, that's fine too.

No matter the temperature in my house my feet are bare. If it was socially acceptable I would never wear shoes or socks but most people don't like it when I walk around outside barefoot so I don't have much of a say in the matter.
