Depends entirely on the game. Most of the time, no, since most levels aren't about trench-clearing or building capturing in the FPS, RPG/FPS and RPG/RTS games these days.

Depends really on the game, and how its applied. Call of Duty 4/WaW: No stopping power. Pretty much every other game I play: Go for it. The shotgun is a short range, high power weapon. There needs to be a balance and in most cases it is met.

I use them only when I'm forced too...personally I would rather sit back with a bolt-action and let other people go gungho whilst I just mop up after they get blasted into a fine paste, but as Saksak said....depends on the game.

GIVE US A GOD DAMNED MIDDLE OPTION. why do all the polls have a set ya or nay, I use them maybe once every month unless the time calls.

I'm the one in the back with an m104 sniper rifle killing guys with headshots from across the map saving my teamates and such. I ususally set up in a spot where I can see the objective like a flag or area of defence, and just pick off all the HVT's (High Value Targets)

So many games have shitty shotguns. You never see good shotguns, the kind that don't have horrible spread and are dangerous weapons even at medium range.

Yea, most shotguns in games are shown to me highly inaccurate though. That's a pretty big misconception.

I even use a shotgun for hunting.

I'm guessing that you're not to good at anything but the shotgun are you? Thing is, you don't even have to be good, just aim in the general direction and fire. I'm not going to vote in the poll because I'm good with real weapons, ones that take skill to use.

it depends on the situation, if your going to be up close or in a hallway that's a series of short hallways the shotgun will be the best. for everything else just use an assault rifle, if they are farther away use short bursts.

If your running through a field with a shotgun popping off rounds your going to get picked off.

Yea i use a shotgun for hunting (sabot slugs) and those are accurate within 150 yards. And if you want a tighter spread use a good choke and you can have a 3 inch pellet disbursal at 50 yards

Assault rifles and sub machine guns are infinitely better than shotguns if you have even the slightest idea of what you're doing.

It seems to be a bit of a biased poll. I do not use shotguns simply because I do not prefer to use them. I do not mind being in the front lines, it is just that I am significantly more efficient of a player when using a long rifle. Sniping is the most fun that I can have in an FPS.
