I went to my cousin's 30th last night. I brought a resposible amount of alcohol with me but I'm (never the less) damaged now.

This is because of repeated, enforced, compulsory shooters. I didn't really want to write today off due to a hangover... but here I am.

yeah, because hey... free booze.

The only exception is if you're feeling like you might want to vom I guess. I can think of no other reason why I'd refuse free booze.

You never have to drink something. Hell, if your friend is very generous he might end up killing you.

A 'shooter'? Lessee...

Urban Dictionary said:
Shooter
A type of spirit with high alcohol content, typically 70+ proof (35%+ alcohol by volume), which is drank in "shots", typically 1-1.5 ounces.

I don't feel like beer tonight, get some shooters instead.
Never heard that term before.

OT: No, you don't have to drink them, and I wouldn't really consider it rude not to drink them.

This equals truth. I know where to draw the line and that's where I stop. There are people who will get pissy about it, but fuck them. Drinking can lead to fun times, getting destroyed leads to the illusion of fun times and a fuck load of repercussions.

EDIT: If you aren't going to put the foot down make a plausible excuse, "I have work tomorrow/a paper due/have to drive someone to the airport", whatever works. People who aren't assholes won't complain if you have responsibilities.

You're supposed to drink 35% in shots now? What? Since when? I drink it straight from the bottle. BECAUSE I CAN.

Also yeah I've only known them as "shots" not "shooters". In addition I HATE taking shots because of such the small amount in the glasses they give me. I like to taste my liquor please and thank you.

Of course!

Shots are a very social thing, people do them in large group and to deny someone offering you a shot is to say "No thanks, I don't want your gift nor do I wan't be apart of your social circle."

That.. that may be a bit extreme, but the moral of the story is - Take your shots.

No because I believe I would throw up after drinking them, after all that alway happens when I try to drink, and no it's not because I get drunk it's because I can't stand the taste of any of the liquors I've tried... I know it sounds pathetic and quite frankly I don't care.

Its free booze so its suggested that you do drink, but you don't have to. As for me, keep them shots coming.

I'm actually physically incapable of drinking shots. When it comes to the taste of alcohol I have an extremely sensitive gag reflex.

Ok, your buddies just don't know good beer. Get a culnary ninja to arse punch them.

BTW: I say this because Guiness is AWESOME and they were clearly drinking by choice at the time.

No, because all alcohol tastes like turpentine and makes me vomit. I can't even use mouthwash.

I'd only ever go to the bar with friends if cameras were allowed, so I could blackmail my friends later.

Oh good, a thread about "forced" alcohol consumption.

Cue the nerds talking about how they don't understand why anyone would drink alcohol (hint: they're not just doing it for the hangovers), they can't stand the taste of alcohol (protip: most people who drink dislike the taste; they're not drinking for taste), and they want to make fun of people who drink (spoiler alert: you should/will never be invited to parties).

Drugs, drinking, and sex can all cause very severe problems for you. People aren't generally so irrational as to do something IN ORDER to cause problems for themselves. All three of those things (some drugs aside) are possible to enjoy in a way that outweighs the problems. And while you certainly don't need to drink to have a good time, it certainly makes it easier.

On topic: If someone hands you a drink and you don't want to drink it, don't. Short of them holding you down and forcing it down your throat, you can just refuse even if it's socially awkward. And if they do hold you down, you should probably press charges.

I bring the booze I intend the drink. If there's a trade-off with a couple of people, fair enough, but the parties I go to tend not to get out of hand enough that booze actually gets stolen or thrown down people's throats, these day.
