I was thinking recently about all the Game of the Year awards sure to come out in the next month or so. Now, I'm a big Mass Effect fan, but all the nominations ME2 had made me wonder whether or not it's fair to have an Xbox 360 exclusive game be nominated for GOTY. Now, I realize that ME2 is coming out for PS3 next year, but what about other games that are destined to stay exclusive one way or the other? If an exclusive game wins the award, that's a large population of the gamer demographic that was left out of the process of choosing the best game of the year. But then again, if one game is undeniably THE BEST, should console matter?

The most popular game is not necessarily the best, that's one, there's no thing such as a universal GOTY (everyone has their own), that's two.

My GOTY is no different from your GOTY. If you haven't played an Xbox-exlusive due to you not having it, that won't change the game's value or fun factor, or anything one bit.

So, of course, the best game of the year does not have to do with what platform it was released on.

This looks like an /thread to me. Naughty Dog's masturbatory box art doesn't mean shit to me. I had more fun playing R&CF: A Crack in Time, so that's my GOTY 2009 no matter how much crap gets slapped on the cover of Uncharted 2.
