one of my dogs had cataracts and in one eye the retina has become detached so he has lost the sight in that eye completely. in the other he has a lot of scar tissue due to the cataracts and can't see out of it due to the scar tissue, so is blind. he copes really well but he can have an operation to have the scar tissue removed. BUT if the operation doesn't go right, he would lose the eye completely (i.e have to have the eye removed) and would have it permanently shut. is it worth him having the operation? what do you think?

Yes, he should have the scar tissue removed, also he should get laser beams, so every time he barks he shoots laser beams out of his eyes.

This is why you don't ask the internet about something like this.

You should do what the Vet says, and don't say he/she said 'its up to you" because they ALWAYS lean towards one option. Don't ask us were idiots.

Do what House would do. Risk it.
Son, you've been ninja'd WITH AN IMAGE. Ezio would be ashamed of you.
I know. That's why I said it, to agree with you. And that's Altair.
Do you know by the folly of you actions you have deprived me of a new message saying I HAVE BEEN QUOTED, I LIVE FOR THOSE! And, I can't tell the different all white [s/]people[/s] assassins look alike.

Shouldnt this be a talk to have with the vet?
they said it's up to us. he copes well as he is and he will live a happy life as he is, he (the dog, Jake) doesn't seem too fazed about going blind. he still manages to find bottles, balls, food and stuff on the floor when we go for walk, he's still really inquisitive but he does bump into things occasionally as he is very active so can't. he was on sedatives for a while (the maximum dosage allowed) and was still nuts.

if he's an older dog, ie near the end of his life, don't have it done and just put him down. if he's younger then get it done

it's hard when pets are like that but when they get older and he's only got a couple more years to live, it's really just best to put them down. way too many people will spend thousands on the poor animal to keep it alive for another year or more

if the dog is blind already

what good are eyes?

its not like cataracts are reversible without the surgery, so just take it to a vet who looks like they've done a few of the operations in the past and give it a shot.

Do what House would do. Give him an MRI where he will start puking up blood. then have a shocking revelation and save his eyes. Joking. Don't bother if he is old, but if he is young, go for it.
