I've been looking through the list of upcoming games and there isn't too much that I'm looking forward to besides MAG. I really want a deep game, you know, to get my moneys worth. What's the opinion and is it really as good as everyone is saying?

If you enjoyed the first game, I have to say hell yes you should.
The story is awesome, the gameplay is tighter, and it's just a great time.
But if you haven't played Mass Effect 1, try to get it on PC.
They have saves you can download that did different things in ME1.

I played it, and can say it's worth the money.
They took out some things and added others, but it still retains a decent amount of the original feel, which is a good thing.
Conversations still feel involving and don't bore you to tears.
They dithced the Mako (Mixed feelings on that one myself)

Overall, it's worth the money in my opinion, now check the other opinions, they're much better writtin.

If you've played the first one, yes.

If you haven't, go play the first one.

If you want something deep, you won't be dissapointed.

I'm not going to over-hype it but I would say yes, go and buy it.

It's one of the few games I've bought in recent years at full-release price* that I didn't regret not waiting for it to drop in price.

*-[small]For the record and in case anyone cares, in all the time I've owned a 360 I've bought exactly three games full release-day price: Mass Effect II, Mirrors Edge and Fallout 3. Mirrors Edge was not worth it, the other two were. Everything else I either waited to drop in price, got off the bargain rack to begin with, or in one case (Dragon Age: Origins) I had a $30 gift card so it still effectively cost me only $30.[/small]

Buy it, Buy it now. If you don't then your life will be incomplete. It will not be worth living.
And buy the first game and play that then play Mass Effect 2 again.

If you liked the first one, I suppose you should give it a go; I liked it, and so did everyone else on the face of the Earth, so you might too.

...That's pretty much all there is to say.

The game is definitely meant to be played after playing the first one. Otherwise, quite a bit will go over your head. Also, it's definitely more of a shooter than an RPG. If you're a fan of RP elements, you may be more interested in ME1 or even Dragon Age, as many of these were removed from ME2.

Yeah I though the first one was pretty good, though I may have to replay it first to refresh the story.

What...thats bullshit. Just because it doesn't have massive micro-management, thats all i could think of which could be thought of an RPG element, everything else is still there. What is up with you people? "Mass Effect isn't an RPG anymoar!?!?" BULLSHIT.

I thought the micromanaging really took me out of the first game..

To each his own I guess.

And yes, this game is pretty much obligatory if you've played the first game, or like RPG's in general.

It's a good game and you'll get your money's worth. Extremely polished, very high production values.

The only way to be disappointed in the game is to be a rabid fanboy of the first one, expecting the sequel to give you some kind of superpowers.

Not only one of the greatest games I've ever played, but the first since Final Fantasy VII to challenge my opinion of what a game could be, and what my favorite is. Absolutely, buy this sci-fi masterpiece.

Just because someone disagrees with you, does not make it bullshit. ME2 is not as much as an RPG as the first game or Dragon Age because they limit your choices. You no longer have as wide a range of opinions or conversation options (indeed, many times Shep will speak without your selecting something for him to say, making him behave more like an NPC than a PC), and there are fewer "big choice" moments in the first game. Inventory control and "micromanaging" had very little to do with it, although, yes, you will find the class system to be overly simplified in some ways. I personally found the game to be less emotionally involved. Again, this is just my opinion, and you have the right to disagree with it, but that doesn't make it any less valid. From my perspective, the RPG elements in ME1 were dumbed down to appeal to a shooter crowd.
