I was thinking about getting ME2 but i thought maybe i should play the ME1 first to port it over because apparantly its much better. From what I understand, the story is much better and makes more sense, you start off at lv5 with abunch of bonuses and your romance option from the 1st game comes into it somehow. I already know what happens in both games (thanks to my fucking spoiler-rific douce of a best friend) but I just want want to know whether I should bother getting the 1st one.
Also , i'm not sure if this is a spoiler but i'll put it in the box anyway
dosen't your love interest talk to you at the beginning when the normandy gets trashed & if you didn't have a love interst or didn't play the 1st game what happens then
thanks for any help you can give.

EDIT: Thanks for the advice people, I'll get the 1st one then.
EDIT 2: Was there even a fucking point in putting this poll in..
EDIT 3: I don't have xbox live if that changes anything. Can't afford it.

If you don't get the first game, you won't have a flying fuck what's going on in Mass Effect 2.

Frankly just save your money and buy S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat, then die happy.

It absolutely enriches the second game.

Another consideration is that (for me, at least) it feels a bit awkward after having experienced the second one (gameplay is much refined). I think you'd enjoy it more if you played it first.

Buy the first game. It's well worth your time and money, and will improve your experience with Mass Effect 2.

eh i guess you should. you'll probably like it. Besides right now it's a bit cheaper than the original price (at least in the USA)so if you hate it then at least you wouldn't have spent original price.

I've been wanting to ask this question myself, but I'm playing Uncharted 2 at the moment (having played the first one, advice given by escapists =D ). The first mass effect is cheap as dirt on steam, but I'm sure it's for a great price for xbox too. I really enjoyed Dragon Age Origins, and if Mass Effect is anything like it, I'm hopeful.

I would suggest that you play the first one first if for no other reason then to better understand how the story comes together. No matter how good your best friend is at explaining it, it's nothing like experiencing it for yourself. Plus there's the whole character import feature.

Get the first game first! It's awesome and your choices from the first game affects the second game which makes the second game much cooler.

One of your old squadmates still talks to you. Makes no real difference if you had an LI or not. Dialogue is unchanged.

Or just buy the original / clear sky and experience exactly the same game, dont get me wrong I love S.T.A.L.K.E.R. but the newest one looks identical to the previous installments.

Whatever you do dont buy ME2 without the original, it'll ruin the experience.

I know you already agreed but bloody YES.

I beat the game on 360 but got the PC sequel, I was considering just playing 2, I didn't think they'd bring much over but I decided to grab 1 on steam for cheap and beat it, happy I did it.

It ain't.

Trust me on that.

I just got the first one and am playing it before the second, I just never got around to it...

I am loving it, and you would be missing out on something great by skipping it, plus it's quite cheap now too!

By the way, you'll only start at lvl 5 if your character reaches lvl 60 in ME1. Most of the bonuses you get are related to your actual accomplishments in the first game (a la the "rich" achievement), not just the fact that you have imported from ME1.

...but DEFINITELY get ME1. It helps the story make more sense and besides that, it is just a great game in its own right.

Really? Was planning on buying anyway due to STALKER being awesome but was somewhat put off due to the engine (other then lighting) looking identical to clear sky, models and all.

Models are same/similar.

But I have over 200 hours in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. not because it looks pretty.

The game play... So...deliciously... hard. (on the hardest of course)

If you see the game on sale, you owe it to your self to buy the damn thing. I've been playing this thing for about 2 months now.

It's rapidly nearing the amount of time I have in L4D 1.
