Black ops is terrible, but you should get it if you plan to play multiplayer. I love MW2, but no one plays on the multiplayer :\

just wondering why you think that, what exactly was wrong with the graphics, I thought they looked just as good, if not better than mw2.

OT: I say neither, get some bad company or brink, those games are so old and still way overpriced. Pay 10 dollars more for brand new brink... or less for BC2

First off: Who the hell plays a FPS for the single player? The only reason to play these games is multiplayer.

Black Ops > MW2, but I'd look to different games to scratch the shooter itch.

I've fallen back on Counter-Strike recently, but I've been hearing good things about the free Battlefield game and 1943.

Bad Company 2 is also an option, but snipers are completely overpowered and don't help their team at all in a game that's based around team objectives...

MW2 I played a lot. I mean like 200 hours in the first 6 months a lot. I got good at the game but it was hardly balanced, killstreaks are terribly overpowered, there's maybe 2 perks in each slot worth getting so until you level to them you're hamstringed, noob tubes are freaking everywhere and the tac-knife is overpowered as all hell.

Blackops suffers from a few of the same problems, but they're a lot more streamlined and there's zombies. It's not a HUGE upgrade, but it's definitely better.

I enjoyed MW2's campaign more, but the multiplayer is less populated and a bit more shitty. But if you're looking for good multiplayer, you should be getting Bad Company 2, not a CoD game.

MW2: http://cdn.venturebeat.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/modern-warfare-2-main.jpg

Personally, I liked the fire effects for MW2 better, and the shader / lighting effects seem to be smoother / more detailed.

but then again, that's just my opinion.

They both suck, stay with TF2.

But if you're masochistic enough to pick one, go with Black Ops. Either way, you're still murdering little boys.

Ahh, I can see that, I was actually thinking of character models and detailing. Especially that part in the beginning of blops where you are breaking out of the camp... I just thought all of the characters/little details looked better in Blops

I'm not going to get both right now since I'm trying to not spend a ton of money at the moment, but I do eventually plan on getting both. I'm leaning more towards MW2 currently because it's cheaper currently and I've heard it has access to shotguns as secondaries without "that one perk" (the knife loadouts also look kind of neat). However, I also know that it has the Nuke killstreak and no Zombies mode.

So which one should I get first and why?
If you are going for a good multiplayer experience ignore both and buy Bad Company 2. If you have to get a Call of Duty I would get Modern Warfare 2. MW2 multiplayer has much more depth and variety in everything, while in Black Ops everything feels bland, the guns feel the same and the graphics look very mediocre. As somebody who has always been a fan CoD, I found BO to be the biggest disappointment in terms of multiplayer. It's a lot more fun when you have something to work for (kills for attachments, kills with attachments for more attachments, headshots for camos, kills for titles, etc.) rather than just buying the item you want with the terrible credit system.

If you wait until early next year, you can get Modern Warefare 4: Cash Cow, a timed xbox 360 exclusive

MW2 had better multiplayer IMO, but Bops is the newer and more popular game at the moment.

Bad Company isn't even a real Battlefield game, and I found it to be horrid in comparison to the real battlefield games.

My gut vote would be Bops simply because it's newer. I mean COD2 was the best Cod game, but since it is so old it has no community. A year or two from now neither will MW2.

Im going to have to say BC2. The multiplayer is very, very well balanced and I dont think i have ever raged at it before. The COD's though, I rage every time. If you want to get a COD, go buy Cod4 for christs sake. Every one of them now is just for the money. Buy MW2 if you're masochistic, and buy Black Ops if you are Blandy Mcgee's tax specialist.

I'd say get neither and save your money for a good game, MW3 if you really want, but I personally wouldn't want to get either game.

Hello there. My name's Iwata, I've been playing FPS's since Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. I like the genre, and hate multiplayer. Pleased to meet you, I'm sure.

Honestly, I wouldn't get either. If you have your heart set on a CoD, go for number 4. Otherwise I'd pick Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Hey there buddy. SP>MP.

OT: MW 2 because it actually worked on release day and the story is continuing on.

Don't get either, wait out the release of MW3, because if there is one thing you can count on it is that Call of Duty and Madden will release another rehash of their games every year.

Actually, and thank you for all for your comments (you were more helpful than these guys [http://www.bungie.net/forums/posts.aspx?postID=60714434&viewreplies=true]) I'm just going to stick with TF2. For the past hour I've been looking at Black Ops montages and the kill streaks combined with damn near instant kill times just look abysmally stupid. Oh, and the commentators I was hearing were complete twats so that didn't sell the game to me either.

So:

Smartest man in the forums...now just follow it up by sticking to co-op and I'll be glad to be your friend.

This. I play games either splitscreen, passing the controller around, or on my own. The only reason I have PSN is to get DLC and occasionally message some friends. With that in mind, could anyone recommend a modern FPS that's campaign centred?
