Now I know what you're thinking: "Oh no, not another poll topic from some guy who can't make decisions for himself! I should go flame his ass up!" Now, I understand how annoying these topics are, and I apologize. I just really am having trouble deciding whether or not to buy this game.

See, the thing is, I've never been a huge fan of GTA, or really any sandbox games. They can be fun in small doses, but the gameplay never interests me enough to keep going. On the other hand, I love Westerns. Clint Eastwood films, Kung Fu, Stephen King's Dark Tower books, so on... Just about anything set in the Wild West is really interesting to me.

So, do you think the Western setting would keep me interested enough to look past the less-than-exciting gameplay, or is this pretty much a reskinned GTA and I'm best off buying something else?

If gunplay experience is a factor: Get it.
If graphics, sound, physics and animations are factors: Get it.
If openworld sandbox with exploration possibilities is a factor: Get it.
If storyline and characters are factors: Everyone else will say get it.

And you think that makes you different from the rest of the indecisive sheep who abdicate their thought process to random strangers on the internet?

Just go to Youtube and watch a Let's Play of it. See if it looks like you'd enjoy it. Or go to Blockbuster, rent it, actually play it, and make a decision for yourself based on your own experiences.

If you want to know where it sits relative to GTA: it's the same, but different. There's a lot less room to cause mayhem, the world's less crowded, you ride horses instead of driving cars, the combat's sort of different, there's a wildlife to go out and carve on with your knife, you can play poker and horseshoes, and there's about a hundred other changes that just come along with being in the old west rather than a straw-man Rockstar-ized version of New York... but the story and quest structure is very much the same. If you didn't like the errand-running in GTA, you probably won't like it much here either.

I absolutely despise the GTA games but I love RDR. So yes, I think that you should get it.

The gun play is good, nice sounds etc. My only minor gripe is 99% of the guns are pretty much the same in each type, theres no vast difference between one hand gun and other, unless it has a standout feature, like the semi auto handgun.

The graphics are okay, except the grass, which is 2D.

There exploration is non existent, loads and loads of nothing with the odd critter running through it.

The story comes in the form of cut scenes and "gameplay" things were you have to ride along side or sit shotgun on a coach and listen to them drone on about irrelevant stuff.

I hated the game and traded it in after one week, little things add up to one big thing. Being abandon after each mission, things having silly little animations that serve no other purpose other than to make it take longer, odd betting mini games (my betting more in blackjack shouldn't effect how likely I am to win, I won alot on the lowest bet but never once on the highest bet), hunting small animals is a pain in the arse! Spending hours to kill a 5 or so skunks.

Your poll doesn't accept "No" votes. At least it just ignored mine.

Get this game. I don't own it yet, it was sold out in four different shops when I went to buy it (another reason to get it, it seems popular), but it looks sweet. Speaking as a fellow fan of the Dark Tower series, you should get this game. It's just so stylish, and big, and interactive. (Or so I've heard) I'm seriously looking forward to playing it next weekend, when I have no more exams and the summer hols are here...

I haven't got it myself but I have played it at my friends house and the graphics are so realistic, the gunplay is so fun (and different-deadeye is DANK), and the world is so open. I would have ordered it last week when I finally had enough to buy it (what? I'm 15!) but my Mum would 't let me (Again! 15!) because she (quite rightly) thought it would get in the way of revising for my exams, Particularly the maths one that is tomorrow. Its now 11:10 AT NIGHT. Oh God I'm gonna fail!

Anyway back on topic:I'm gonna order it once my maths exam is over and done with and I think you should do it to because it is slightly different to GTA. It' more western-ey fora start.u

No, don't get it, I have never enjoyed any Rockstar sandbox game, and this is no different.

Also, what ridiculous trickery is Rockstar using to make people think the graphics are good? I just don't get it!

Shut up, just seriously, shut up, people want to know if a video game is good based on what the average person thinks, and a forum is a good place to ask around, so please just shut up.

Uh blackjack isn't affected at all by your bet. Only horseshoes and five finger fillet are

I'd recommend picking it up

- lock on system works a treat with only some hiccups
- story and characters I didn't think were the best but it worked alright
- weapons are not too varied but there's enough to keep you going
- very large open world with lots to do (there's some WoW-esqe things to do in there too)
- multiplayer doesn't have many modes but the mechanics make it kinda fun to play
- graphics and sounds are beautiful (never seen a better looking night sky in a game)
- single player has around 45+ hours of stuff to do in it so will keep you busy for a while

There you go, can go through that if see if those things perk your intrest. Also look up videos of gameplay/walkthroughs to get an idea of what it's like.

Well, at least I'm not one of the people who feel the need to criticize others for behavior that they have acknowledged and apologized for. :/
