Poll: Should I join WoW?

I'd say no. You'd be joining fairly late in the game. You'd have to buy the game and two expansions, but you'd hardly get your money's worth on the original game and the first expansion. Also, the second expansion is pretty far along, so you'd be hard pressed to catch up there as well. If you really want to, buy just the vanilla WoW and try it out. If you hit level 60 and still like it, get Burning Crusade and if you still like it at 70, get Wrath of the Lich King.

However, I'd suggest trying a different MMO. There are a fair few coming out that might turn out to be better than WoW, or at least more innovative. Also, if you haven't tried any MMOs yet, maybe you could try one of the free ones to test the waters before you financially commit. Personally, I'd reccomend Dungeons & Dragons Online. It's going free in a couple of weeks.

I guess this would also demonstrate the importance of which realm you join in how much you will enjoy a game. It will be difficult to find people to play with on a low-population server, for one, and the servers have their own general atmosphere. Khaz'goroth is not the intellectual center of the WoW universe by any means, but it seems very good-natured to me. If you are going to jump in on your own, it's worth reading some forums to try and get an idea of what server would suit you best.

Exactly. Join a low population server and you'll have a hard time finding people but Join a high population server and it could take a while just to sign in. Also be sure you know what type of Server you join.

Regular-Means it's just the game with the only PVP happening in the BattleGrounds and no Roleplaying.

Roleplaying servers- Basic DnD stuff. Players create there character and then act out from there standpoint.

Pvp- Battles everywhere. Not so great for new players as there is the occasional 80 running around destroying everyone in his path.

And by far the strangest invention by Blizzard.

The PVProleplaying Server- See two above and merge them.

I have been thinking of joining WoW for quite some time now but can't make a dicision. The game looks really fun and I finally got a good enough cumputer to run the game (Only last week) but WoW is really pricey. I think that the game is probably worth it: In depth story, good graphics (for an MMO), cool invironments and overall good reveiws. But I want to know what other people think: Is it worth it, is it a good game and are the players (as a general rule) nice or complete D-bags. Please vote then leave individual information.

What kind of answer are you expecting? Anybody who likes the game will recommend you try it, and then all of the ignorant/biased people will tell you to steer clear.

It has potential to be a really fun game, depending on how you play it. The grind doesn't have to be a grind if you're smart about it. Rather than being extremely bored whilst grinding by yourself, you can join a guild and socialize. I think the only reason I've even gotten a character to 78, (yeah, haven't gotten to 80, just re-upped my subscription after 6 months of no playing due to lack of funds) would have to be the guilds I joined. That, and having a real life friend show me the ropes.

Other than that, make sure you try out every class, because you'll never know which one you'll like. I was certain that Hunter was my class, but after never getting one above 30, and trying a bunch of other classes, all of a sudden I figured out that I loved being a Shaman. Don't quit on the game simply because you're bored. Try out other things in the game to see what you like the most. Some people prefer classes where you're constantly mashing buttons, and some like more reserved classes. It's all preference. Having played off and on for 4 years, and not getting a single character to 80, I know what it's like to be bored.

Perseverance, and all that, right?

The majority of the Escapists routinely settle out at 15 to 17 years of age. The next largest demographic comes in at around 19 years old, depending on how one splits out the ages groups in the poll Of course, some of us are considerably older than that and a few of us are younger. Most of the people here isn't aren't little kids, and the ones that are younger than average are often considerably more well-spoken and better-mannered than trolls of whatever age who think it's kinda funny seeing someone go all psycho.

Yes, if you do sign up, try different races and classes. You are allowed to have up to ten characters on one server, so take advantage of that. Play multiple characters not only so you can find what you like, but so that you can break off and do something different every once in a while. I love my shadow priest, but it's good for me to take a break and play my hunter for a change of pace.

I just downloaded the ten day trail. My initial impression: boring. I started as a blood elf druid and the first quest was to kill some random animals there weren't even trying to kill me. The game looked dull and a bit ugly. There was no vibe, no atmosphere, no fun.

Compare this to Mass Effect where within the first five minutes I'm rescuing hot girls from alien death machines.

I also tried LOTR Online and enjoyed it more. The Quests felt purposeful and the graphics were a lot more clean and better looking.

I think the same thing. Only the end game is mildly interesting to play, and that gets boring rather quickly too. Leveling is the most boring game experience I've had in a long time. Also, I like to play games that are memorable, where there's a good story, memorable characters etc.

Also, all the quests, atleast currently are extremely repetitive and dull. It destroyed the Warcraft lore thoroughly, especially with Cataclysm.

I could only play it in a high-rate private server to get quickly to end game and then play that. I've done that, and while many of the quests are broken, I still get through with leveling faster.

itsn ot a bad game at all i play it myself and it is worth the 15 a month the story is great and so are the enviorments the one snag is the people that depends on waht server you play and weither your Horde or Alliance i say give it a shot

I played it for a little bit, and I had to keep telling myself "This is fun, this is fun." You know what? It wasn't.

Play Runescape, it's cheaper, more addicting, and just better overall.

WoW is fun and nice, it's taken care of and huge, yep yep.
Buuuuut - The main focus is that of what you should dread - Work.
Every part of WoW is being tailored to hook you and keep you, making you do things you can't stop doing, it'll take more and more time and it'll force itself onto you.
Ask yourself - Do you smoke? Drink? Get high? Eat too much? Work too much? Play too much?
Any addictive behaviour is tailored for in WoW and while you'll love every moment of it at first, you might and me one day..
When the last expansion was released I spent 4 days straight without sleep (Apart from a few hours when the server went down) to become one of the 3 first Death Knights in game.

I'm not proud of it and I've quit since, it still calls me from time to time and it ruined alot of my life.
People have died from it even. (Yes yes they're "just asians" but, hey, they're still human..)

As far as people go there's basicly three types you'll meet
Powergamers who will shun you for not having atleast 5 80's with raid gear.
Attentionwhores, male or female, they'll be nice and strut around you just for your attention
D-bags. The worst kind. Ever.

What you'll meet is dependant on server, time and just generally the mood of the day.

Are you willing to pay to work at your computer daily?

If your into RPG get it it is the best well balanced one out there, and if your a bit turned of by the price, my advice is to start with a battle chest, which will get you WOW, BC expansion set and a few stratagi guides. But and this is important, but some reserch in the classes, finding the right one for you is important since it will make or break the game for you.

P.S. looking forward to cataclysm, but i dont no how it will all fit togther

I played wow for quite some time.. It isn't as immersive as any other MMO i've played, especially EQ. In the end you just feel like another cookie cuttered character and you fullfill your role of damage, tank, or healer with nothing special or unique.

If you enjoy completing an infinite amount of tasks just to keep up with the others to only be like everyone else. go for it.

really it all comes down o whether you want a girlfriend/boyfriend or not. i recently buggered up my computer and can no longer play wow for reasons unbeknownst to me but there isnt really a day goes by that i don't say 'hmmm. i really want wow back'. yeh its a rip - off but its really fun for like... half a year or so. have a good 'un.

Only if you want to surrender the majority of your social life. I should know, I tried the game until about level 20 and then it hit me that I hadn't talked to my friends, gone outside, or done anything else in that time.

Yes I play EVE. Yes I love EVE. Yes I can see why people consider it boring. And, yes I have seen Yahtzee's review. I disagree, but that's another story entirely.

Well I played the free trial and all I have to say is (and please excuse the yahtzee quote) bored, bored, bored, eyestrain.

But getting back to topic it's all a matter of personal taste. Play a demo if you can and if you like it then go for it.

I've discovered that WoW is really only fun when you play with people (friends). If you're a social butterlfy or sorts you should have fun with the game. There's great depth in the game too. Personally, I didn't have the time to get into it too far past the Burning Crusade, but if you dont have kids, a job and have lots of time on your hands, this could work out for you. Just convince your friends IRL to get the game if they dont already have it, or wave goodbye to them.
