So It's pretty obvious that Single player games are being dumbed down in a lot of cases and multi player is focused on more because that is what most people play nowadays. This is obviously not fair on people who don't like MP because they are paying for something they are likely never to play, at the same time people who never play single player are paying for something they will never play.

So should games be sold as single player and multi player at £20 each so you buy either or both If you want to ?

P.s I know I made a complete hash of this but you get the gist :D
P.S.S If this has be suggestion before my bad.

No. That wouldn't work in a million years.

Yes absolutely, that would work splendidly.
Good to see we agree.

OT: No, its a dumb idea and in the long run the consumers will end up having to pay more for a single game when the publishers start licking their lips and splitting things in half.

And what about games that offer drop in/out style of MP, like brink is promising? What are you going to do then?

It probably wouldn't work, but as a person who have almost no interest in multiplayer it would be nice to get the game cheaper.

Sounds nice on paper, but something tells me it work out well.

And seeing as multiplayer is more popular it will succeed more, meanwhile single player will have trouble making as much money. Off-course this is me just speculating.

Well to be perfectly honest i was just sending up Mr. Toast there.

Seriously, it is pretty much what we have already. WE have SP games like Bioshock, we know what we're getting, a game where the dev focused 100% on the SP because there is no MP.

Then there is COD, ok those who bought COD4 expecting more of the traditional COD SP experience would of been sorely disappointed (I was), but to be fair we knew what we were buying into there as well, we saw the reviews, we knew the campaign was short and the appeal was 95% in the MP.

Then there are games like team fortress, OK, 100% upfront pure MP, no mistake there.

Most of the time its pretty clear.

Beyond that, a proper length and well executed COD campaign on its own as a game and then the multiplayer on its own as a game... I could buy into that. Mostly because I wan't some good old fashioned COD goodness and its not likely to happen any other way, but also because, for this IP at least there are two distinct groups of fans that want two very different things.

Edit: Also WTF is with the MM logo i'm seeing in everyone's avatar lately?

Nope, I don't think that would work. I view Multiplayer as something that adds value to the game, a good game should be able to be worth its price tag be it in single player or multiplayer individually-or both, in some superb games-but they should come as one single bundle. 2 components of a game you paid for.
But in all seriousness how many games come up to that mark with both great SP and MP. I can't think of a single Xbox game that has.

This really only applies to people who play either SP or Mp. If you play both It really dosnt matter and you may end up losing money.

What? It does matter if they are ripping you off.

Here is what would happen in the end tho, games like CoD and Battlefield sell really really well basically only for their MP comments, So both series would scrap the SP all together and probable end up only having a tiny price cut (we all know EA and Activision won't give up such money so easily)

This isn't really a surprise or anything, but it sets a trend, sets the pace, other publishers and developers will for the most part get it into their heads that MP is where all the money is at, and shift 99% of their attention to flooding the market with more and more generic MP games and the SP market would slowly crumble under the big fuck you boot from Activision.

I worded that badly. What I meant was that the idea wouldn't be for you.
Still. What?

I know the idea isn't for me, I've stated thus. Even if I don't like the idea I'll still be getting ripped off a shit ton if they do start to split games.

It would only work if companies split the price of the game in half.
However, no company that is out to make money would ever do that, so although in theory it is great, in practice it just won't happen.

No.

For starters, I don't really think games have been dumbed down for multiplayer, and anyway, just because it will be on 2 discs doesn't mean that they won't be developed together. It would do bugger all but if you wanted both you would end up paying more.

Yes. If you play both then you'll hate the idea. Also the idea would they would be split 50-50 which I know would never happen

Umm... What? For an English dude you sure have a shit grasp of the language.
Yeah I'm playing NHL 11 so I'm kind of rushing. I really should have waited till I had finished but the game gave me the idea.

Right, sorry about that.

The idea in theory would work like this:

The original game would cost £40 when split both Mp and Sp would be £20 each so nobody would lose out.

Would that ever happen ? No maybe not. And no It wouldn't work out well for the person who likes both If the prices did increase.

But wouldn't you rather a game be either or, not a rubbish SP and a great Mp or visa verse ?

That's exactly what I thought.

Like they aren't doing that already with DLC's, expansions and different versions of a game.

Short answer - NO

Long answer - That wouldn't work at all. Sometime's even singleplayer's feel so drunk and disgusted that they wan't to play with nosepicking twat's. Oh yes! I don't wanna open the box again and search for the MULTIPLAYER disc.

That won't keep the singleplayer from being a quick throwaway, if the focus of the game in the first place was clearly multiplayer.

No. No, no, no, no, and perhaps another no if you're feeling generous.

I just know somehow we'll get charged $100 for each.

But cost aside, the experience should be whole, in my opinion, not split up into separate purchases. Publishers would lose sales and customers would be put off by the 'lesser half', and of course there's additional fees involved in getting a game published twice.
