there's a flash version of doom on Kongregrate. [http://www.kongregate.com/games/mike_id/doom-1] On the Kongregrate forums someone started a thread about they should remove the game because it's not original and the person is making money off it. [http://www.kongregate.com/forums/1/topics/28280]Do you agree with the person who want's it removed, yes or no.

It doesn't really matter, because there are a billion other places where you can play the flash version of Doom.

His post loses validity do to the lack of proper business etiquette. Comes across more as whining. Part of me also chuckles that the guy ported the freeware version.

Considering the doom source has been made public a long time ago, I say yes it should be taken down. No one else is making money off their work. Plus you can pretty much find the full game all over the internet for free...

Yeah, unless it is iD (I guess now Zenimax) sanctioned. They don't own it.

He's not making money off the game on Kongregate. The game is not pay-per-play.
You can make donations to devs, but that's not tied down to any particular game.

Also, just because people are making a fuss out of it I suggest keeping it up. The rage will be epic.

If he's making money or taking credit, it should be removed.

If ok with id and he's just putting it up, I have no issues.

It's only the shareware levels so I don't see any problem. If flash game developers don't feel like they can compete with demos of old dos games then tough titty.

Its short for MS-DOS, or Microsoft Disc Operating System. It was Microsofts primary operating system before Windows.

Ah, memories. Makes me feel old though...

This may sound kind of weird, but a part of me actually prefers using DOS over GUIs like Windows. Sure it's clunky as hell and you have to make damn sure you enter the right commands, but its simple and straightforward presentation really gives you an idea of all the complex calculations that are hidden from the user nowadays.

Given that it appears to be just a Flash port of the shareware version ID Software themselves released for free, I don't see the problem. Any revenue they're getting is from ads on the website, not the actual game itself.
