Poll: Should You keep your old consoles when the new generation comes?

I'm not unhappy with my closet full of antique gaming systems. I mean, I don't play them anymore with the exception of an occasional SNES, N64 or PS2 title. But I've never felt like the retail stores gave me a good enough deal to make it worth my time. So I just kept them.

I voted no, although it is likely a different reason than the ones given here.

I quit console gaming a few years ago when my Xbox 360 failed to satisfy me. Instead, I built a gaming rig.

Just finished a new one. I'm much happier with it than I've been with any console.

Never! In fact I have a spare PS2 as well, purely because they're still available and they've stopped making them. The PS3 has no backwards compatability and I still play my old ps1/2 games from time to time, so there's no other way to play them. Well until I have a PC capable of emulating PS2 games at any rate, but you'd be surprised at how much of a resource hog that is.

I'll be keeping my PS3 because Dark Souls 2 isn't going to be on the PS4 for a long fucking time, if ever. That's almost a deal breaker for me on the console side because I'm guaranteed to enjoy DS2 more than any launch titles for as long as it takes until Dark Souls 3 comes out. Damn it.

I'll probably keep my haggard 360 around because I have a lot of games that I like for it and I may get the bug to go back and play Dead Space or RDR again at some point. Not to mention I won't be buying Microsoft's next console after the sorry fucking state the last one was in, so there'll be nothing with which to replace it anyways.

I gave my Gamecube to my father and, when he died, I didn't bother to get it from his girlfriend. I regret that, although the Wii is pretty much backwards compatible with its software, isn't it? I still haven't played Eternal Darkness or that fugly cell-shaded Zelda game.

His other girlfriend's kids kept his DS. I probably should have fought for that because the last time I had a Nintendo handheld console was during the Gameboy Color era. Damn it two times.

Considering the sheer volume of "duh, of course" replies I think a more approapriate question would be whether a new console generation should have backwards compatibility or not, after all that is the overarching topic here...but it's already been done to death in another thread or two (I think)

Yes, absolutely.

I still plug in and play my N64 and NES on occasion, and very much regret selling my SNES long ago. It's even more true for handheld games like Pokemon.

I am equally confused by people that sell current-gen games to Gamestop, getting maybe $5 for a game that Gamestop turns around and sells for $50. At the very least, you should sell used games online and get a decent price both for you AND them.

I've got an Atari 2600 hooked up right now- old games are kinda my thing.

I'll likely get rid of the Wii if/when I get a Wii U, since it's backwards compatible and my mom said she'd like it for Wii bowling... the PS3 and Xbox 360 stay.
