when your playing a game and someones watching you play it, do you tend to play it in a different way than you normally would so as to show-off in some way to the person/persons watching you?

like making the game feel more cinematic(i.e.timing your actions with things like music or anything else to make it more visually appealing), playing the game in a more serious manner(not screwing around at all and just advancing through the game), completely ignoring whatever it is your supposed to be doing(i.e.roaming around aimlessly not doing a damn thing), completely ignoring whoever/whatevers watching you, or something else entirely

I'm guilty of trying to play in a more cinematic fashion when people are watching. When it's something like Ninja Gaiden II or DMC4, I try using eve more move and abilities than I already do, mainly so that I don't have to hear my watchers go
"What, that's it? You just go around and hit stuff? This is dumb, let's play Halo."

Yes, I have gotten that EXACT reaction from someone before.

I try and make it entertaining to the watcher.
Even if it is screwing around and just being plain silly.

I'm actually the guy who watches, no-one watches me play.

Lovely is the life of the man with no eyes upon him.

I show off the things the game can do that I think will make whoever watching like the game, then hopefully they will play with me instead of watching me from afar in disgust.

I certainly swore a lot more when playing Prototype in company of friends than with my parent. Although the fact that I was able to show my Dad a guy getting smashed head-first into the pavement still speaks wonders.

I also tend to shout a lot more when playing Smod with company. Shout of 'MEAT!' were common when we had the gore turned up.

I tend to do more amusing things. Or, I play as I usually do. I tend to kick more ass when people are watching, though. Weird.

Meh, I just play as I normally do. Sometimes my performance even gets better just because someone's watching.

As a mum to 3 kids (ranging between 18 years and 6 months) and a wife (sigh..........) ;-) I have to play with an audience a fair bit of the time, it is something I have had to get used to. But my husband plays games (occasionally) and the two older kids are gamers so it isn't really an issue, we have all watched each other play games and so there isn't a need to be anything or do anything different to the way I would play anyway.
I do sometimes (hearing is a bit iffy) have trouble concentrating when there are a couple of people watching as they talk and I lose track of what is going on, so when that happens, assuming I am playing an RPG, I just train for a bit or wander round the town/village etc til they STFU! ;-)

I tend to try to play cinematically anyway. Having an audience, be it in anything from Tekken and Smash Brothers to DDR and Technika, just increases that tendency.

Especially in fighting games, though. I will be the one to go for the Instant Kill in Guilty Gear, the Arc Drive or Last Arc finish in Melty Blood, the Arcana Blaze KO in Arcana Heart, or the Dramatic KO in Capcom vs. SNK 2.

I have actually done this once, to God Rugal. It was one of the happiest moments of my life.

Am the same, I can't do anything right, when ever someone is watching me.

When people are watching I usually play pretty-much the same as I always do, but with a lot more dying.

Amen to that. I know the feeling. I feel pressured to do well, suck really bad, and make up pathetic excuses like "The wind direction changed".

I generally try desperately not to look like I suck and fail miserably. Watching my game = me flat on face.

I play the same way I always play. Can't let people watching change the way you play, because it's usually for the worse which means you won't win casshhh.

I got in a car chase with a helicopter today while playing GTA IV in order to amuse my friends. I definitely showboat just a little bit.

Show off. Somewhere halfway between cinematic and serious lies this boundary in which you play seriously but show off every move you ever learned in one long string.

I can advance through Batman AA without being seen unless the game forces you to be. When someone's watching I will thus either play entirely silently, displaying a full range of silent takedowns, or wade into 20 enemy brawls, use every attack, and come out smiling with no health lost.

Stranglehold is great for this.

I tend to look for the most interesting places in a world. I won't go to the main story or anything, but just do what I think will be fun to watch. It's hard to say. Nobody's ever watched me game apart from my ex, who didn't really play video games but found it more fun to watch other people play, which was awesome. =D
