Poll: "Shred Has No Feeling"

This is pretty much the stock argument for people who don't play guitar fast or with good technique.

It seems ridiculous to me that you can say a whole style of music has no feeling, I mean, certain artists, (Dragonforce, Francesco Fareri) take it a bit too far with special effects and speed to song ratio, but listen to guitarists like Dimebag, Shawn Lane, Paul Waggoner, Marco Sfogli, Jason Becker and others like them and it's obvious that you can shred with feeling.

I challenge anyone to listen to this before saying yes.

If it's just all about how many notes per second you can play then it's pretty damn boring.

I've listened to lots of metal that had face-melting solos that truly stirred something within me and lots of metal where the solos, especially shred, just sounds like ass.

Really it just depends on the guitarist though. Slayer's solos aren't exactly shreds but they still sound terrible.

Within Reason. Im more of a repeat riff (Plug in baby for example) man myself then just shredding. Im more alternative/indie man, and i dislike metal, It just seems to have one feeling, and meatheaded fans.

There are exceptions, I admit.

Majority is ok, I do like DragonForce (Please don't hurt me) but mainly as they are quite amusing live.
I still think the second guitar solo in Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the best solo's of all time.

Shredding can be a skill that livens up the place. It's more technical nature does make it harder to put feeling into, but for some emotions it's actually a good fit because of the sound?

So no, it doesn't mean it doesn't have any feeling.
