Do you enjoy games that use more buttons for a lot of different actions, or do you like it when you don't have to worry about pressing one of 14(4 L and R, 4 face, 4 d-pad, 2 stick clicks) different buttons to get your character to do what you want them to do at that time?

I don't mind simplistic control schemes, as long as the actual game is engaging enough to keep me involved. Maybe that's just my old-school gamer self talking, since I was playing during the days of one stick, one button controllers. Most of my favorite games are super simple(Bubble bobble is my GoaT, and it's nothing more than run side to side, jump, and shoot, all within one screen of gameplay), but then again, some of my other favorite games ever have more cplex control options(Stranger's Wrath has the controls of an FPS, plus options to go into TPS with more moves). I'd like to say I prefer simpler ones. Shmups are my favorite genre, and it's usually as simple as move and shoot.
