Poll: single player or multiplayer?

i was thinking, games at the moment seem to be based on multiplayer. i really like games for the story mode, but i do like to have a multiplayer mode so i can play along side a friend, so i wonderd which of the to do you play? the most i probably play is single player

Single-player. I do my share of multiplayer (*cringe* ex-WoW player, MW2, and various other games), but I certainly play far more Single-player lately (Fallout 3, Civilization IV) than I do online games.

Every single one of my favourite games has been single player. Either entirely, or with the option (but not necessity) of co-op. I do love a good multiplayer game, but they can never compete with a decent single player game in my eyes. As soon as something relies on the decency or pleasantness of other people it risks being ruined.

The Left 4 Dead's and TF2 are perfect examples. Get two good teams playing, friendly but competitive and it's fantastic, but all it takes is a single prick to ruin it for everyone else. The world and the internet especially contains a lot of those.

You don't have that issue with single player, and it's also easier to become immersed.

SP. I'm not a big fan of MP. Even if I do play MP, it's usually co-op.

Usually I come for the campaign, stay for the multiplayer. In rare cases (Such as Battlefield Bad Company 2) I do play primarily for the multiplayer

I play both.

I wish some games had multiplayer(Metroid Prime, Wifi at least)

And then there are some games that could do with more Single Player and less Multi.

I like a good mix of the two.

Yea, I mean if a game has a good multi-player; Fantastic, but if it's only known for its MP and has nothing to show for its SP, then its nothing but a social(or other activities) gathering of the sorts.

Single player. I much prefer it. I do play a few online games (shooters mostly, no MMO's) but I'm too shy for them really, and if a game has a singleplayer mode, I'm much more likely to use that.

Which is why I hate games like MW2 de-emphasizing singleplayer.

Even if I do play Multiplayer, it's almost always with friends or on a server I know well. Which is, again, another reason to hate MW2, with it's bloody lack of dedicated servers.

Agreed. Multi-player geared games, except for MMO's of course, at the expense of single-player rarely ever seem to end up as really "good" games to play for very long. MW2 disappointed me for that reason, but if I dug into why i'd be restating alot of stuff that I am absolutely certain has already been said.

I need direction to what I'm doing. I'll take Metal Gear over a team deathmatch every time. Only times I play multiplayer is split-screen at a friend's.

Multiplayer is the sole reason for me to play games, why would I want to artificially rape some AI program in some B grade story when I can test my skills against like kind?

I thought about checking that out too, you should report back your findings. I've heard good and bad reports for it.

I'm up at college right now and a lot of my gaming friends are at other schools so I prefer to play single player games now.
