Kill the best character in the game simply because two elderly morons think he should be punished for being on the side his entire species was at some point, even though he eventually turned and might be the sole reason (or at least a very large reason) why anyone even survived?

I only wish I could explain to the Blades how much they suck. I love Paarthurnax.

Oh no. Nononononononnononon.

Dammit. Oh Damiit, i killed just an hour ago, I tried to postpone it, but the damn mission was there.

I tried to talk to the greybeards but no-one said nothing, I tried to make some reason with delphine, but nothing, I didn't want to kill him :(

But anyway, when i started killing him, he attacked back, so he's not that all peaceful.

Now i can only hope the truce breaks down when i Kill Alduin.
Even a pacifist has a right to defend themself. If you didn't wantto kill him then why do it?

If Dragons in Skyrim follow the character traits I normally associate with Dragons: Pride, Power, Greed, Cowardice, immortality, knowledge and cruelty then I see no reason to kill him. As dragons are intelligent they should be judged on their actions not their nature. Even Alduin isn't inherintly evil his just a fellow slave to dez, fate.

No, I couldn?t bring myself to do it, he had redeemed himself. The Blades may have helped The Empire and me in the past but?

What? No! Why would I want to kill him? He's a total bro! :(

Fuck Delphine and her zealotry. Same for Esbern, whom I hoped would've been more reasonable about it.
F U blades, glad I didn't bring anyone to you. Hope y'all die in a fire.

And my canonical character (first one, still only) will not choose a side in the civil war either. Ulfric being a stuck up bastard, and leaving my people to freeze outside the walls, and the Empire hasn't pardoned me for breaking into Skyrim in the first place. So both of them can go join them in that fire, too.

Oh my daedra, I'm playing Skyrim like The Witcher!

Bad poll no other option. What about those of us that didn't kill him on one character but did/are planning to kill him now.

If I could only do a single run through the game I don't think I would kill him, because I like him (even if he is the most annoying character to speak to), and I can respect his position. However, I made a new character for the sole reason that I wanted to do all the other stuff that I didn't on my first character (like join with the imperials in the tutorial), so I'm planning on killing him as soon as I decide what buff I want permanently.

Edit: To me it just doesn't feel right killing parthanux just like I didn't want to kill the girl in you're first official solo mission for the dark brotherhood, but I did it anyways on my second character to see how the story changed.

Paarthurnax stands as one of the major "good guys" of the plot. Really, besides him, there's hardly any people who are fighting for simple peace and harmony, like he is. Everyone in Skyrim fights for dominance, while he is content to meditate the Way of the Voice and help in defeating Alduin when the time comes, then return to meditating and teaching.
Why would you kill him? Because you were told to? Huh!

I wouldn't kill Odahviing either, but not for the same reason. He could go beserk at any time and kill a whole heap of people, but he's saved my ass enough times that I won't turn around and lob off his head.

This whole thread even before clicking on it spoils a big moment in the game.
I don't get why people call it a spoiler.

Someone who hasn't progressed the main quest enough to meet Papa Dwaggie wouldn't even know who he was. If that same someone is spoiler-sensitive, they would--or at least should--have the sense not to click on a thread talking about something they don't know yet.

Anyway, yeah, I told Delphine to go jump off a cliff when she said she wanted me to kill Paarthurnax. Without him, Alduin would've won the first time, and we would not be here having this conversation. Hell, if I were in charge, I'd make him frikkin Grandmaster of the Blades.

No. I like the big guy. Really one of the few characters in most games actually that I did not want to kill.
I can't pin down exactly why but I was actually opposed to the idea before Delphine asked me to. As soon as I saw him I thought someone would want me to kill him and just went "No. I like Paarthunax. That dragon rocks. Also he has a cool voice."
Maybe it's the film Dragon Heart buzzing away at the back of my head.
Really Paartunax was the only ally that I thought useful or on par with me enough to earn my respect.

Also the Blades were annoying. I was role playing as a power hungry murderer and The Blades were just weak.
Given the chance I would have killed Delphine.

Did you kill Paarthurnax?

Hell I'm trying to play this Goody-Goody Paladin-like character I haven't even killed a bunny rabbit. I pay full price for all my ingredients and food, as to not harm neither plant nor beast (unless attacked first). I don't steal, murder, or forget to brush my teeth.

However in Skyrim I'm starting to get the feeling what's the point? The dialogue drones on forever, I stopped giving a shit about the main storyline 3 weeks ago. I use one shout maybe once, every four hours of gameplay if that. The nasties I take out with Sword, and only once I confirm they are "evil".

I haven't reached the end of the main storyline yet, so hopefully for once electing to play a "Lawful Good" alignment (Blame Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, for the term) I will be rewarded.

So did I kill Paarthurnax? No

I wasn't even asked to kill him until he'd already helped me out a bunch and then the Blades ended up still being useful enough after they said they couldn't help me anymore if I didn't kill him (which I thought was weak, because, really they'd done virtually NOTHING up to that point - I mean really - stealing the horn I'm supposed to retrieve so I have to come talk to you, treating me like a punk, having me run the risk of death to infiltrate their little elf enemies' party time... I felt used by them from the word go). After I defeated the ultimate dragon and they were like: "Okay, no really, we won't help you anymore unless you kill the guy that's been helping you all this time - actually helping, not like we've been doing by just bossing you around" and I was like "How about no?"

Seriously. The Blades can sit on it and rotate. They did less that squat for me and treated me badly to boot and then they feel like they can make demands. You people don't even exist anymore. There are two of you and you're going to want me to fix that too I bet, piss off.

"Did you kill (X)?" in a game where you can kill damn near any X you want is hardly a spoiler.
It is when it's part of the main story, and last I checked you can't kill characters vital to the story unless the plot allows it.

So yes! This is a spoiler.
The title is not a spoiler.

If you look at the title from the perspective of someone who hasn't progressed the main plot to the point of meeting Papa, the title tells you two things: there is a character named Paarthurnax and at some point, you have the option to kill that character. Since you don't know who or what Paarthurnax is, you're still in the dark. That's...not really a spoiler.

This poster got it closer to the mark:

First off, as mentioned by previous posters, at least add "SPOILERS" to the title, because there are some pretty heavy spoilers here.
The discussion about why or why not kill Papa is where spoilers lie, not the title itself.

Of course, anyone sensitive about Skyrim spoilers should simply have the good sense not to click on a thread mentioning a name they don't recognize.

nope, fuck the empire and the blades. besides, dragons are more honorable and understandable than most mortals, plus if they did take over the world, it'd be worth it to see the high elves knocked down 20 pegs!

practically ANY Skyrim thread is going to have spoilers, intentional or not, its not MY fault that you read the whole title when you could have stopped at "Skyrim"

Pfft, don't listen to them--the title itself is not a spoiler. Some people just like to complain.

Welcome to the Escapist. Careful, it's a minefield.

Hey, does anyone remember the game Sly 3? Remember the Panda King?

Yeah, I see Paarthurnax just like that. He's a reformed Buddhist monk who sure as shit isn't gonna go around murdering people anymore. People/sentient things/etc can change. Sure, it's rare as hell, but it happens. Paarthurnax has shown he has through his actions. His will is like steel. I don't see him breaking/reverting ever. After all, what would he have to break over?

Hopefully the Blades can get over it one day.
