Poll: Skyrim: The Armour complaint.

It's like taking the spear out of Oblivion. At first, you get complaints, but they'll slowly dwindle into nothing. After a while, people will say that Oblivion is better, but Skyrim is still good, and, at the end of the day, they'll be playing Skyrim.

As for me, although it kind of sucks not having the option to mix and match different armors, I'll soon forget that this was even there. I won't be seeing myself much in the game anyway since I'll have it on first-person view, and if it allows for more things on the screen well, that's just better.

I can understand the decision from the developer's standpoint. Imagine the coding that would have to be required to procedurally create and dress random wanderers with 10+ armor slots (including jewelry) on the fly... "Hmmm, that might make a 360 chug a bit... Maybe we should cut down the party of 4 down to just one person." I'd rather have a small group of drunken revelers than just one stumbling bum on the path, myself.

But, I will admit my distaste for the options getting trimmed down. Probably my third favorite mod for Fallout3, after a little tweaking of the ungodly overpowered stats, was 'Tailor Maid' (originally "spads") that allowed me to mix and match bits and pieces of different armors to make my own wasteland scrap armor. It just looked awesome to have my jeans & recolored leather jacket reinforced with spiked, steel belted radials and spiked thigh pads, with a full-face grey motorcycle helmet and a massive two-handed blade reminiscent of an anime swordsman. (Tried to find my old pic from Fallout3Nexus, but it looks like 'Tailor Maid' was removed from the site... and discovered that an old mod of mine somehow got corrupted.)

It's not even a problem that appears solely with video game development:

yeah I'm with this guy, besides this happens all the time. Hell people wined to gamestop (and i think EB games) about a product that sony shoved in the box to compete with Gamestop, everyone complained and wined about it yelling at gamestop but then fact was that the store has a right to do that.

Besides in the end all the PC owners got a tone of stuff from them alongside with a apology from gamestop and sony sed NOTHING! Besides this REALLY is a good thing if we have a set of armor you get more benefits by wareing the hole set. Hell i have a heay armored guy who has Wolf armor for my chest and leather gantlets because i got a buff from them and not my steel armor.

Personally, I'm more worried about what changes (read: nerfs) they're going to make to the magic system.

You know what I missed in Oblivion that I really liked in Morrowind? Jumping. Jumping crazy ridiculous heights and distances. And alchemy. Mind, I still used Alchemy in Oblivion to fill a variety of roles, from offense, defense, disruption, healing, and turning middling food items into CASH. (SUCK IT KING MIDAS I RUN THIS TOWN) But I missed how that one time, I turned my Morrowind-ian Breton into a physical god by using/abusing an infinite Fortify Intelligence Potion trick I found. Even though it officially ended the game as I had known it, it completely changed how I played the game, which in turn made a game that was slowly becoming boring fun again. Another thing I missed was putting activated abilities onto wearable items. I had Jump Pants. They made me really good at jumping, and they were blue. A moment of silence for the Jump Pants.

(Just watch now, the whole magical school of Illusion won't be in Skyrim. I ruined everything by saying something and jinxing it.)

Noooo... Illusion is the one super OP thing casters had left! Haha I couldn't agree with you more. Half the fun of Morrowind was breaking the system with clever spells and items. I have absolutely no clue why they insist on nerfing them, because it's a single-player game. Bethesada, if I wanted to not have the ability to fly across a continent, I wouldn't have made a magic ring that lets me fly across a continent!

In all seriousness, I'm pretty sure that at least Paralyze won't be in Skyrim. Wouldn't want to downplay how badass and cool a dragon is when he's flying around by paralyzing him in midair and making him crash and take a bunch of falling damage.

And then punching him to death.

(Was tempted to go back and make the dragon female for purposes of equality, but seeing as the example ended with punching the dragon in question to death, I decided not to.)

I wouldn't be super surprised if they just made dragons immune or really resistant to effects like that, because yeah illusion magic in general seems like it could wreak havoc on dragons. Or, in the case of command creature, wreak havoc with dragons.

Looking back on this post now that the game's been out for a bit, do you realize just how much we guessed right about the dragons?

What would be good would be if in the next Eldercrolls there was an extra slot dedicated to surcoats, robes or cloaks (reflecting warrior, mages, thieves). That way you can wear what ever armours best but also customize your look.

Old thread is old. But well, why not...let's do the retrospective thing...

I originally voted that yes, it annoyed me.

Having played it now, it still annoys me. I would like more slots. I'd like the option to run around topless...or bottomless if I wanted!
