So I am a (relectant) Clearwire customer. As a gamer I know Wireless connectionsare not fantastic. Fine but it ws cheap and availiable. So I've had multiple issues (NAT closing, Failure to download, and general slowness.) All of which the Clearwire people simply say: 'We do not recccomend Clearwire for Gaming'. Why isn't this in advertisenets? Gamers are a large demographic and clearwire barely even beats a 56k Dial-Up modem for the purposes of gaming.

So I think Clearwire should clarify this to all customers. Thoughts?

You kind of just answered your own question. You woulden't sell a car, and be 100% Truthful about the condition of it if it was in an accident a month prior to the sale, or if it had trouble starting up every now and then :D

They're just trying to make it sound like a good use of money, like all companies do.

Gamers aren't a huge demographic for internet carrier traffic..... most of the traffic on the internet comes from browsing sites. When you were buying the service you should have asked it if worked with gaming, they shouldn't have to provide it.

I've heard of Clearwire before, yet I have heard it being used in the context that it was shit.

I don't have to worry about things like this. For one I use ethernet cords.

If it was that low, why would you consider it for gaming in the first place?
If you're spending $40 a month, I'm sure you could find a better provider for your needs, 56k is just terrible.

But, if you didn't disclose the history of the car, you could be sued, and possibly charged with fraud.

Alright, so "Car" was a pretty poor analogy, but I think my point remains the same.

Don't worry, if a decade of Slashdot users cannot come up with a good car analogy, I don't think anyone will. In the meantime, your point definitely still stands.

I really want to say yes, but I can't help but feel that you should have the good sense to research these things beforehand.

After all, if they say on advertisements there is something they can't do then they have the serious potential of loosing business. You can't expect them to just do that.

What connection do you have? I game on my laptop behind a wireless router on a 3mbps connection and I'm doing perfectly. I connect to servers in the US (I live in Argentina, quite a few blocks away) and get pings of about 200ms, which is quite manageable, though not ideal.

Clearwire is a WiMAX internet provider (internet over wireless over cell towers) usually used by people in remote areas where cable or DSL isn't available.

It's pretty sucky as far as speed/ping goes.

Edit : a friend of mine was using Clearwire, and was told that her computer/her home router/etc was the issue, until we did some tests (computer connected straight into the wireless modem, modem in the window facing the cell tower) and got pings worst than a 56k dial-up connection. Then we tried her computer on my cable modem and it was blazing speed, obviously the problem wasn't her computer...

Oh and the guy she talked to there told her the repeater on the tower malfunctionned a couple of time during the last 2 months and they were "examining" the possibility of replacing it.
You never EVER tell that to a customer, that's a big no-no...

ie. our equipment sucks and we're not sure if we really want to pay another 20k to replace it...
