I's better than X, miles better than 6 or 8, but still no where near as brilliant as 4 or 5. Still, I suppose getting third place ain't that bad.

Final Fantasy VI for the Snes version, where the title is referred to as Final Fantasy III. The music is untouched in this version, which is the most memorable, next to Celes, Sabin, Locke, and Mog even, etc. etc.
ZOMG it's gorden o_O, how is Laharl doing?

FF7 and X are the best in my opinion, both are flawed in some ways, but what brought me in was the story, even as of now it makes me want to play it. I was very young when I played it and at that time games for me were more about a story being told rather than anything, and i still see ff7 like that, alot of the time i forgot it was a game and played for the story, and its the only game to date where a take the time to play the side missions simply for the fun of it. to me its the best in the seris :)

ff6 is the best and ff9 is second best while ff7 probably is third as long as we are going only by numbered ffs if it wasnt id probably bundle all the tactics together and put them in third

FF7 is freaking awesome, but to me it's just one in a great series. I couldn't single out just one FF game and call it the best.

I can't say it is the best since I haven't played any before 8. I can say that it's the best I have played (no real competition since I have played 7, 8, 10, 10-2, 12).

The gaming community seems to absolutely worship groundbreaking steps in their series at the expense of all future games (or so I think). Hence all the people who refuse to say that anything is better than FFVII, Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, etc. Some of them have true valid reasons for liking the game, but I think a lot just likes the nostalgia and is in denial when they say otherwise (you know because those types love to hate the new games)

At the moment, I am currently replaying FF7. Although it does have some plot holes, [Preventing Shinra from destroying Meteor.. Just because? Wut?] it definitely has one of the most intense story lines I have seen in a game. I am very pleased with it. :D

Also, a little Off-topic, but what's with all the FF9 love? The main character is like, half chimp, the entire plot revolves around trying to find a Super Soft, and I was on the final disk within two hours. I fail to see how great it is...

Final Fantasy 7. Apparantly it is one of the best games that has come out in over 15 or more years, and marked Sqaure's reputation as quality game developers, leading to numerous best-selling games with even more expected for many years. But, I never found its appeal, it never hooked me like VIII or IX, hell even X got more play time from me.

I guess I just never got it really, and have never bothered to understand it. So discuss what makes this game great in your opinion, because I really don't get it! :)
I always thought that even though it doesn't have as many games as the 7 miniseries (there's only one) FFVIII was a far superiour game. The battle system and just general concept of the game was aimed at adults more than FFVII (not that 7 was aimed at kids).
All the games in the FF series I think i've liked, but for me the standout one was 8, so no, 7 wasn't the greatest in the series, IMO.

I don't really have a favorite. I've enjoyed almost all of them immensely.

I have a least favorite.
VIII.

Incomprehensible story, annoying characters, ridiculous gameplay design, and characters that by the end of the game have no difference between them because their performance is determined entirely by what Guardian Force and spells you have "junctioned" (whatever the hell that is) to your attributes.

Worst Final Fantasy, worst rpg, worst game.

I don't like any of the numbered Final Fantasy games, but instead like Crystal Chronicles and the tactics games (save for FFTA2... just... no.). However, I'm somewhat lost as to why everyone is so enamored with VII specifically, but my opinion is forever ruined, as half of the story I've picked up over the Internets and other things.

But, in the end, my opinion is forever invalid for enjoying X-2.
I liked X-2... if anything you lost credibility when you said you like the first Crystal Chronicles. That was horrible, and repetitive.
Until you found the holy element, it was boring as all hell.

I'm disregarding your opinion, because if you have no idea what junctioning is, you clearly haven't played the game. Please leave the thread in a calm and orderly fashion.

VII is undoubtedly my favorite FF. While not my first (Mystic Quest gets that honor) Final Fantasy, it was the one that made a gigantic impact on me. The story left me in awe more times than I can imagine, and it's most memorable moment, the end of disc 1, left me in tears. I've played many great FF's afterward, but none have had quite the impact that VII did.

Now, that being said, I don't consider it the absolute best in the series. The best is open to perspective of course. I happen to like 8's music a great deal more than most of 7's, and 5's had deeper gameplay. 6 definitely had a more demented and notable villain along with an incredible story. I love so many of the Final Fantasies to really call a single one the best, but I still consider 7 my favorite.

7 was good but not entirely the best in Series, however that really just depends on who you ask. Everyone has their favorite Final Fantasy game, I just think 7 gets more hyped because theres probably a bit more FF7 fans out there compared to other FF iterations.

My favorite is FF8 with FF10 in close second.

FFVII is one of the worst JRPGs to ever grace the earth due to the fact that everything about it is bad save for the battles and even those are pathetic thanks to the games materia system.

You spikey haired main character is whining about his past for over HALF the game, while all of your allies are damn near cardboard cut-outs who provide nearly nothing to the story. They get all of their personal back story shit done on Disk one then the last two disks are meant to move the story forward.

The main villain doesn't even do anything either. He just sleeps in the center of the planet and his mommy does everything for him including killing the only character really worth caring about in the entire game.

In its time, it was good. Ever since last gen, its been horrible.
