SO, Halo Wars has been out for just over a week, and i wanted to see what everyone thought of it, given that it's a console RTS, and therefore shoudln't work by definition.

I actually thought that for what it was, it wasn't half bad. there were some definite areas were it fell down, such as the inability to define unit control groups, or the lack of a SHIFT+click ability, and the lassoo/unit painter is in definate need of work.

RTSs are easily my favorite genre of games to play, but actually i didn't think it was too bad, though it can never stand up alonside a PC RTS,

this discussion is now open to the floor. What do the escapist think of Halo Wars?
(i did a forum search and nothing came up, but please let me know if this has been done already)

I think for the company that brought us Age of Empires and considering that this is the last game they will be bestowing us with, I don't think it cracked up to my expectations.

Im more impressed with the full version than the demo. Although I like it, I cant see myself coming back to the game or playing it online much after i finish the campaign.

Really? I may be ridiculously out of the loop here, but can I see a link?

I haven't played it, but watched more than I should have about it, and it just doesn't seem very engaging or special to me.

I'm anxious to see where this goes because I've been contemplating buying it but I've heard very mixed reviews from both friends and people in the User Reviews section.

It was pretty good, the gameplay works pretty well, despite the fact that it was a console RTS. Hell the new Dawn of War doesn't sound much different actually. I'm sure I'll get flamed for that. But I mean because of the lack of resource management.

If you have a 360 at least rent it.

There isn't a 'It belongs on the PC' option on that poll there.

Its alright, like all RTS games i would much prefer it to have a keyboard and mouse at my disposal, than a simple pad.

ensemble insisted that they wouldn't make a PC port for it, and if this is their swan song, then it's doubtful it will actually make it anyway

For an RTS, it does what it's supposed to on the Console. If your expecting a perfected PC port. Go fuck yourself.

As for you, accept it as what it is, and not a PC port and you'll love the game.

All it is, is a RTS with a Halo skin slapped on it.
I wish. If thats the case, Warthogs shouldn't be the ***** of everything.

Warthog vs Marine Squad

Marine Squad wins...Wtf?

you know, it probably wouldn't have scored so high if it wasn't Halo. If it was something else probably would have scored a 5 or 6 and maybe a 7, like it did from the readers on IGN.

I love it. It does what it's supposed to do. It's fun, easy to play and get the hang of, it looks nice, sounds nice, and it comes with the Mythic Map Pack (YIPPIE). Halo Wars is just fun, it does away with the micromanagement of PC RTS's and goes with a more fast paced approach. I think it works really well. As long as you don't go into this expecting it to be better than PC RTS's or expecting it to be exactly the same as PC RTS's, you'll have a blast.
