Well shit. Depends what kind of heaven and hell we're talking, I suppose. If we got with the approach to the nine circles of hell, I will deffinately go there due to being a heretic. However, if we go with the very old christian heaven, everyone shall be saved and granted another chance. But probably hell.

If we're going by the Bible? Hell.
If we're going by what is just? Hell's pretty damn empty.
Apparently OP's wishes to keep this thread off of religious debates are being squashed by certain assholes...

What this guy said. We atheist are pretty much all screwed if we end up being wrong about this.
Well there was one arguement, I forgot who thought of it, that goes:

Lead a good life
If there is a god and they are just, you will go to heavan
If there is a god and they are unjust, they were not worthy of worship
If there is no god, you helped make the world a better place

Seeing as we are constantly breaking the comandments and other rules found in the Bible...Hell.
You know the consumption of shellfish is considered an abomination upon God? So is wearing clothes made of two different kinds of cloth.
Most people prefer to 'pick n choose' what is ok to follow and what isnt (for example: the issue of gays, which is mentioned in passing is for some reason far more important than the verse about shellfish, which I quote is considered to be an "ABOMINATION before God" and is RIGHT next to the opinion of homosexuality.)

I may not be religious but if I were it would be all or nothing for me. Either follow every tiny thing or stop being hypocritical and just stop believing. What irks me the most is that I probably know more about the Bible than most Christians, who have most likely never even read the damn thing and prefer to follow blindly into church "yay Jesus, herp a derp!"

Heaven. I try to give to charity, I'm generally a nice guy and I've not even killed or raped anyone... of course, it depends what view of Christianity you follow. I think there a sub-section of Christians that think only those who are Christians will get into heaven.

Well, I'd like to add to the discussion a third way, Asphodel. In greek mythology, those neither virtuous nor sinful were sent to a dreary place of forgetfulness. I think most of us would wind up there.

I'm an atheist/agnostic and I really believe if there IS a god, he is supposed to treat inquisitive minds fairer than any religion would like us to believe. If man was created in god's own image, I think that there is no place for a hell, because all are like god, and god is like all.

I take pleasure in blaspheming, so probably Hell.

I'm not a nasty person, though. But God seems to be a rather petty individual.

The gift isn't spelling, is it?

Kidding. What's your gift though?
If my spelling is of, it's becouse of my dislectia.

My gift is the knowlage that I don't have to earn the right to go to heaven, but I only have to accept it as an gift. A gift that has been given to me by God and Jesus.

Becouse by His(Jesus) sacrafise I'm going to heaven. I don't have to do anything for it, I just simply accept the gift Jesus is trying to give me. Thats all...

Given that I think the God described in the Bible is a complete prick (really, though, how can he be all-forgiving but still punish people for eternity?), Hell.

I cannot answer the question for there isn't enough information. What heaven and hell are we talking about? If it is the fundamentalist Christian heaven and hell, then hell, if it's the Orthodox one then I go to heaven. There's far too much nuance between the various faiths to make a blanket statement like that.

How do you know that? Have you been to Hell and check it out?
Have you asked God how he is planning to judge the world?

Hopefully heaven but it won't suprise me if I end up in hell.
However if I recall correct in history class, if I was mostly good they can wash out my impurity (sins) and allow access to heaven although I'm not taking this seriously.

Well I'd go to hell only for the reason that I don't believe in God, and if I died I and found out he was real I would still not be sorry for not believing him during my life because he's been such a dick to humanity. Although I'm generally a good person, I think I'd get sent to hell simply for being an atheist and I would question God. Though break.

Anyway, wouldn't everyone go to hell by default? I mean, who haven't broken religious rules atleast once and not felt the least bit sorry about it? Also, don't the Bible say that to get to heaven you have to give away all your possessions? WHO DOES THAT!?

The poll is actually fairly pointless. Now don't get all jumpy upset about this. The main problem is with some (one in particular) religions, if you are not a part of it, or ask for forgiveness, you are going to be sent to hell. No matter how good you are in life, or what you have done for mankind, you are still going down.

As I am agnostic, I am surely going to hell. Oh bummer.

First of all , this ISN'T a religious debate, I don't care if your atheist or buddist or catholic. This is a Hypothetical question . So we are going to assume that Heaven and Hell exists for the sake of the thread. Also purgatory doesn'T count , it's one or the other.

Now if heaven and hell exists , and you were to suddenly die right now , where do you think you'll be sent and why ?

Personally i would be sent to hell, i have done ( and argubly still doing ) some terrible things in the past. Sure i'm not a murderer or a rapist nor am i a pedophile, but i have done quite a few repulsive things in my lifetime .
Um... it's kind of hard to parse heaven and hell without an associated religion. I mean, which heaven? Which hell? The Judeo-Christian set? The Greek set? The Egyptian set? The Norse? Valhalla has some rather specific requirements, after all.

For that matter, which Judeo-Christian heaven and hell? According to some Christian mythology, Heaven has multiple sections: Paradise, Hell, Purgatory, Limbo, and the section where the angels live (they don't live in Paradise, although some work there).

According to the oldest Christian texts, Hell is actually a pretty nice place. In fact, it's exactly like Heaven, except you don't get to meet God. That's the only difference. But, for the ancient Christians, getting to meet God was the BEST THING EVER, so not getting to meet him, ever, was truly a fate worse than death.

The Fiery Hell was a Middle Ages invention - so if you're using Dante's Inferno, then that's an entirely different Hell.

ANYWAY...

OT: To answer your question - I'd opt for Terre d'Ange, and prostrate myself to Blessed Elua. Speaking of OTHER locations in Heaven.
Lol first Thing I thought. Also if you get the reference please add it but Lucifer (the devil, Satan, etc...) Is not the Ruler of hell. He's actually a prisoner there according to religious texts. (Chained and awaiting punishment). He was made ruler and jailer in a book (I think it was Paradise Lost).

Anyhow the vision of Heaven or Hell according to the religion is pretty important. I mean, for example in the old (really old) vision of Heaven you could only get in if you prayed and devoted to the Lord every single day without fault. Meaning most will never set a foot there.
Also there's something to take into consideration. Most believe Heaven is a pretty boring place, filled with fluffy clouds and fat cherubs. But I don't think it is like that. I mean even in the bible the angels are described in many different and weird ways (Think more Bayoneta, less the porcelain your grandma used to have).
Also there are Chariots, sometimes pulled by Lions with Fire!!! That doesn't sound too white and fluffy and boring.

I think it really depends... I mean who knows... For example according to Dante, people pre-Christianism who were good people but didn't worship the right God because Jesus hadn't died for their sins yet got to spend their time in the first part before Hell. (Purgatory I think)
I mean wow... A lifetime of good deeds but they had the lack of good judgement to be born before their savior's death. Not after...

I think most of the time we Imagine Heaven like a bright and shiny and pretty boring place because it's pretty not threatning to personal taste. That way you don't have to argue about what's the ultimate reward to a life of good deeds with the chum next to you. Also because our imagination is pretty limited.
Maybe Heaven and Hell are the same place and our imaginations and minds dictate the reward or punishment.
Hey Nordic fellows spend their afterlife fighting all day and then feasting all night.
Greeks... Well, Greeks spend their time either in a blissful amnesiac state or like horrific shades only remembering their lives when they drunk fresh blood. :S
Maybe we get our own personal definition of Hell dictated by our fears and own horrific actions. I mean if you've been a truly horrible person and you are going to suffer for it boredom in a fluffy white boring place filled with fat cherubs might be your punishment... But it might not be Heaven...

Anyway I'm striving to be a good guy regardless of the place I end up at, but If I could choose it would be Heaven.
