And to my surprise, it actually works. And it's kinda fun.
Don't get me wrong, I hate the motion-control gimmick as much as the next guy, and after seeing all the ridiculous online videos of it being broken (models who can't run, vendors who can turn and shoot, etc.) I expected it to be crap.
Shockingly, navigating the menus with your hands worked perfectly, the track and field game responded well, and Kinect Joy Ride was weirdly enjoyable. I suppose it helped that the people running the booth explained how everything works (running speed is determined by knee height when you run, not how fast you move your feet, etc.), but either way the interface isn't quite as stupid as I thought it would be.
So yeah, now I don't know what to think. Assuming it does everything M$ promises it will, and might actually be fun, would you even consider giving Kinect a chance? Or is it still just a stupid gimmick in your eyes?
p.s. Kinect is at the Texas State Fair - they have two trailers set up all weekend - so give it a whirl if you're in the area.
