It's been a few weeks now sinse Jim has been added to the escapist, and I've been hearing alot of criticism about him. I want to hear other people's opinions on this, so I figured this would be the best way to get it. So yeah, go nuts, lets hear what you think about Jim.

Personally, I'm not too impressed with him. I mean, I don't really get what he's trying to be. Is he trying to be a serious opinion show host? Or is he trying to be a stand up comic? I just dont know. My friends keep telling me "You just got to think of the whole thing as a joke." but I just don't see it, not with how he represents himself.

And even if I had a solid understanding of what he's trying to be, None of his solutions would be any more valid. Adding Tomba or Midevil to PSN wouldn't be any better then what sony is doing now, just because COD is a good game with well done online, doesn't justify it being the only game you play.

Maybe I just dont get it. Maybe I just disagree with what he's saying. Maybe I just don't like who he trying to be. Bottom line is, I don't like the jimquisition.

Hey look, another one of these threads.

But seriously, he just seems to be a less interesting or funny version of Yahtzee. Hence, why I don't watch his videos.

Well, personally I only watched his first video and it didn't really grab me. Normally I would watch a few more to get a better idea of what he's doing but to be frank I don't care. That in itself is probably a bit of an issue with the show but I don't dissaprove or anything(and even if I did, who would care?).

Also, if there is supposed to be an actual poll here, I don't see it for some reason. Just a heads up.

I generally enjoy the show even if I often disagree with his points. As an example, he asserts that the problem with Sonic is that the character is being presented incorrectly when I generally feel the problem is simply that the basic game design of running really fast and making jumps does not translate to 3D. Since this is literally what Sonic is all about, his games have tried to capitalize on it again and again. Given the simple fact that running really fast was covered pretty thoroughly in the 90's, I don't think there is a solution to the Sonic problem. The options, as I see them at least, are grim: Bite the bullet and just make games in the old style and to hell with decades of progress in game design (and earn no new fans while continuing to disappoint the most misguided and abused fanbase in the history of gaming) or make an entirely new kind of game that is legitimately fun while ignoring almost everything about all those old Sonic games (probably earning no converts to the Sonic flag and alienating all the Sonic fans). The other option is to simply realize that the age of gaming mascots has more or less passed and take note that both Sony and Microsoft manage even though they really don't have anything as iconic as a Link or a Mario in their stables.

i get what he's trying to do, he just fails at it. badly. like in his latest video where he points out that charaters need to be so over the top they become funny and cool, good point and what he's attempting to do, however despite knowing this he just comes of as a fat twat who thinks he's better than you.

I like him! By far not the worst thing on this site.
I get what he's trying to do, and I appreciate it.
Plus, he's a fan of The Peacock and Gamble Podcast, so I know he can't be a bad guy!

Didn't like the first one, but its grown on me. Get quite a few laughs out of it; how anyone is "offended" by something that over the top, or how they take it so seriously, is beyond me. The voice over segments are always very straight and argue the point well, even if you disagree with him.

Mind you, I remember everyone crying about Bob's Expendables review because he "insulted" them, so there you go.

This thread again?

In a nutshell:

The episodes on Destructoid so far have been better, but his ones here are improving.

For example

Read his reviews on Destructoid. He is oblivious to giving anything other than a shooter a good score, his writing style makes him come off as a pretentious idiot who thinks he is above everyone (in a herp derp im in the video game industry and you're not. Kind of way)

The way he presents his show doesnt sit well with me, the introduction makes it seem like he's trying to do some stupid Hitler Rally Parody. (Killzone Helghan, the colouring etc etc) and I just think its ridiculous.

Extra Credits basically does what he does, but better.

Just my 2 cents

No, I don't like him. I get the feeling that his opinions are provocation for the sake of provocation and/or being 'cool'. Taking a semi-controversial topic, taking an unusual stance, and that's about it. And more often than not those stances just come off as sort of moronic.

As I think his opinions are generally not worth listening to, for me atleast, I could watch him for entertainment purposes only. Sort of how I look at Zero Punctuation. The thing is that he's not entartaining, and he's certainly not funny. It comes off as forced and is cringeworthy at best.

But then again, I can just choose not to watch him. Which is exactly what I do.

Didn't like it at first but somehow kept watching. He makes some interesting points here and there. Not saying it's all valid, but atleast he gets people thinking. So he has the benefit of the doubt so far.

Well, the way of many reviewers and online critics is troublesome at first. People don't trust something new and some will hate it because it's invading their "personal space."

Personally, I like Jimquisition. He is arrogant, but that's what the writing calls him to be and that's his online persona. It is nice to see someone tackle the pretentious snobs of gaming with a bit of hubris of his own.

I hope to see some more videos Jim.

I enjoy his writing, so I was interested to see this series. Was completely disappointed. I gave it ample chances to impress me, but after 4 episodes of lame I gave up, and have not watched it since.

Also, after Jim's pompous and defensive remarks on Twitter about it, I stopped following him. He's really just a big fat self absorbed child. I still check in on his articles now and then, but I'm mostly just disenchanted with him as a person now and don't want to piss my time away on his nonsense.
