A lot of people are anticipating the Wii U. Others are writing it off as a casual platform, regardless of what games have been announced for it. Personally, I feel it's worth giving a shot. What do you guys think? Please justify your answer in the comments.

Sorry for the errors on the poll. The first should read 'I'll buy it on launch date', the second ' I'll pick it up, just not right away', and the last one should be ' Hell no, I hate casual games.'

People writing this console off need to seriously step back and think for a second from the perspective of a third-party developer.

I am a firm believer that what makes or breaks a game console is the library of games that the console has.

So let's say you're a third-party developer. Ask yourself these questions:

1) Would you rather put your game on a system that is going to have AT LEAST an extra year to build a substantial installed base, and thus a greater potential to sell more games, or would you rather put your game on a brand new console with nowhere near the same installed base?

2) Woud you rather develop your game on a console that you isn't as powerful, and will be far cheaper to produce a game on, or the (anticipated) vastly powerful consoles that Sony and Microsoft will be making? Would you rather produce entirely new engines for your games, or go to the Wii U and use the tech you have been using for years and are familiar with?

The Wii U has the potential to garner some serious third-party support, and thus have an amazing library of games. If Nintendo is able to capitalize on this, then they could have a winner on their hands. It wouldn't be smart of me to say that the Wii U will succeed, but it would be very stupid of you to say that it will fail.

I'm going to pick it up later.
I am expecting it to be good and it seems really interesting and if the games are as good as they have been to the Wii then I will really enjoy this console like the Nintendos before it.

I am looking forward to the WiiU and would get it at launch, if not for money issues sadly. Next year as long as nothing major happens in life I should be able to get it then and probably will.

When it gets 12 games I want that I can't get on a system I already own, then I'll buy a Wii U. That's my benchmark.

It's not necessarily the Wii U itself that gives me any desire to buy the system. Sure the tablet peripheral is unique, but so was the original Wii's motion control, and we all know how awesome that turned out to be over the years (sarcasm).

Plus it's pretty much been confirmed to display current-gen graphics (EDIT:Guess not) and will probably not support a very healthy online aspect (that's speculation on my part.)

But those exclusives... Curse you Nintendo.

I'm definitely going to get it, but not right away. I'm in college right now and it's approaching finals time, so I don't really have time to be playing around with a new system. Plus I hear they're pretty much sold out already, supposedly they're not even taking pre-orders anymore. So I'm probably going to wait for now, but it looks really cool so I'll definitely get it eventually.

Actually, games like Metroid Prime 3 not only showed that motion controls could work, they could work better standard analogue controls. The problem wasn't so much with the tech, it was the fact that most developers dug in their heels and refused to try and do anything interesting with motion tech.
I agree. I really enjoyed the motion controls, I thought when done well they added a lot to the games. On that note I'm also really looking forward to the tablet, it looks really interesting too.

Actually, there's a very strong rumour that the Wii U will use a custom AMD e6760 GP-GPU, which is quite a bit more advanced than the GPU in either the 360 or the PS3. From what I've read, people are suggesting a ballpark figure of around 3-4 times more graphics power in rough figures. Though that's once developers get to know their way around the development kits. Launch titles never show off a console's visuals. The 360 had to wait for over a year before Gears Of War showed off what it could really do.
Then I stand corrected. It's actually a pleasant surprise to hear the graphics have more power than the 360/PS3. I wasn't aware.

But for the record, I always knew the Wii's motion controls could be done right (as they occasionally were), but sadly most developers never made it work. I'm just suggesting the GamePad may go down a similar path, which would be a damn shame.

I have no interest in the system because, first and foremost, I have no interest in the games. I also feel that it will end up being massively underpowered once the next gen of consoles come out so it will end up being the little brother system that the Wii is/was in rather short order.
