Apologies for yet another thread about Minecraft, but I'm undecided to buy it or not.

I've been fiddling around in the Classic version, building bridges and towers and the like (I was a Lego playing kid), and I'm wondering what the benefits of the full version are. I'm quite enjoying Classic, but I get the feeling that it might get a little boring after a while. How much does the full version add? Will it keep me more interested than just building? I'm enjoying the building but there's not masses of challenge to it so I'm wondering if the full version will give more of a sense of accomplishment. Sorry if I'm a little vague, but I'm fairly uninformed on the full version and as the 'scapist has a huge Minecraft community I figured this was the best place to ask.

Also, will my laptop handle it? I've got a new Sony Vaio [http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/sony-vaio-vpceb4l1e-wi-white-laptop-08722499-pdt.html?srcid=198&gclid=CKuD1MmksKgCFcJP4QodnHHqHA] That seems to cope fine with Empire Total War on fairly low settings, but I'm a little dubious on how a large worldspace will run.

Is it worth it?

Sorry, but I really don't find it that appealing. Sure you can do anything you want in that world, but that's the thing. I really prefer building something if there was a goal, like building a zombie defense or a village for bots or AI's to live.

That's not how you spell malarkey.

And yes, you should buy it. It's fantastic. Plus you'll save money compared to buying the full version when that comes out.

I found playing Minecraft survival interesting for about a month or two, however, if you can get a few friends to get it and start a server together, you will find a game that never gets dull. For the cost, it's a very VERY fun game, that will keep you entertained.
If you get bored just give yourself a project. I'd say go for it

Its fun, and for the first few hours, you'll think it its the best game ever. After that it may taper off, but at least for me it comes in waves, Ill have a carving to play minecraft every few weeks. So what does the beta add? crafting.

I would say the full version is more rewarding just because there are obstacles that you have to overcome (obtaining material for building/crafting and fending off monsters). Your creations are all the more impressive when you have to work at it. It can be a bit tedious at times however, particularly if you're having trouble finding a rare resource.

I'd say the pros outweigh the cons though. If you liked Lego, you'll probably like Minecraft.

The difference between the classic version and the full version, is the difference between having nothing but the most basic square lego blocks, and having all the little specialized lego blocks. And it's definitely worth it. You can do more than just build a house, you can run a mine cart train around through it, build traps to capture mobs (actually, mobs don't even appear in Classic, do they? so that's a whole other element of added fun that you get with the full version), create zany contraptions with various mechanical parts. There is such a crazy amount of stuff that you can do in full that you can't in classic that it's not even funny.

In some ways, I think that full is also a genuine game, while classic is more like MS Paint with a different interface. In classic you have all your tools from the start, and you can use all of them in an unlimited fashion. But in full it's more like you're an actual struggling character in this world, to build what you want to build, you have to overthrow the various challenges and hardships that the world has put in your path. That is to say that unlike Classic, which doesn't pose much of a challenge, full has challenge.

It's a lot of fun, and I highly suggest you go for full. TBH, I can't even bring myself to play Classic since I started playing full because it just doesn't compare.

Minecraft beta is like legos, if you started out with no legos and had to take someone elses' legos apart to build your own.

Cheers for the information, I've gone and bought it, so I'll probably try and get the hang of it and get involved with Escapecraft and whatnot.
