My friend who's opinion I generally trust has recommended this Twlight series by Stephenie Meyer. I've heard the name tossed around the forum on occasion and before I go out and spend my hard earned money on this series, I'd like to get a general idea of what the forum-goers think in general. The whole thing appears to have passed me by (as most things do these days) so I'm a little out of touch with the whole thing.

Opinions and explanations, as always, are welcome.

I've heard of it from a few people. They've said it was very good. I've never picked it up at all though. So I guess my answer would be: My friends say its very good.

Get new friends. Seriously, stay as far away from that series as you can.

From what I've heard, it's like the new Harry Potter. Not the writing, more like how it's become a craze. Of course, this is my opinion (and I haven't read the book), so take it for what you will. It might be good, but I'm not really interested.

Naw, I like my friends and they're entitled to their opinions, as wrong as those may be.

All the girls, and some guys, in my school are or have read it. They're making a movie I guess to. I dunno though, I don't read that genre.

Given its stale, emotionally heavy drawl of a plot. Its characters as deep as a blind mans field of vision and so much overflowing angst it hurts to look at...

It's juvenile, really, its for over-romantics and those without imagination.

If you value the worth of literature, buy a copy to watch it burn.

From what I've read, here are my impressions (granted, these are nowhere near expansive or complete, this is a first impressions thing):

If you like InuYasha/Kagome fanfics, or cheesy Vampire sex Romance flicks, then you're not being steered wrong toward Twilight. However, if you've a strong penchant for writing meticulousness, or heavy and story-driven plots, then you're looking in the wrong neighborhood. No, you're in the wrong country.

Twilight is a book series that's been highly praised by my gay and/or female friends, which is an indication toward it's romance/sex driven storylines. The story is one of the fantastical, neato-burrito Vampires are awesome, way better than humans types. Cheesy, stereotypical preteen girl fanfic Romance stuff. If that's your thing, and don't have an inclination toward higher-level language or structure, then you'll find a fitting story in there. If you're like me and like some level of... refinement with your humor, or really hate the sex Romance genre in general, save yourself some money, go buy a better author [http://jim-butcher.com/].

Edit
Irony that I'm talking about Twilight for my 666th post?
In honor of this milestone, a speech. (Apologies for off-topic nature of this.)

Good evening, gentlemen.
It is my great honor to announce that NewClassic's NinjOS is being taken out of the BETA stages, and being advanced to the upper-level "Release Client." With that upgrade comes a new system that makes use of the considerable processing power, clever modifications, and new building engine.
New inclusions, as well as the new, upgraded processing core, conversational subroutines, and analytical drive, include a new Terms of Service. The Terms of Service outlines your servitude to the NinjOS brand should any and all OSes come in contact with you. The contract, a verbal one by nature, is activated by speaking to any NinjOS unit or client, and is legally binding in 49 of the fifty states, and in all UN-Nations.

[sup]Offer not valid in Puerto Rico, Mexico, or Virginia. Should any problems arise from your contract, then contact your most convenient representative, who will send a direct envoy to the NinjOS database. Any and all questions should be direction to Mr. Stan Alfred Tin.[/sup]

Thank you for your time and consideration, and remember, for Mandalore!

Haven't read it, but ever since I encountered Alucard, I consider any vampire who DOESN'T kick 18 differents kinds of ass to be disappointing.
I won't read it, and will just go back to desperately attempting to convince my friends to read Watchmen and A Song of Ice and Fire.

Too many fangirls have unloaded their spunk on the series, so my opinion has dropped from "don't really know" to "don't really care."

To save you agonizing amounts of time reading mediocre writing about an incredibly cliche topic (Human/Vampire romance, where the human is invariably female) I give you Twilight in a nutshell:

http://images.encyclopediadramatica.com/images/6/6e/Twilight.jpg

Seriously, that's pretty much the whole thing.

EDIT: If you're into vampires and want a good series to read, try the Cirque Du Freak series (AKA The Saga Of Darren Shan in Europe) by Darren Shan. They might seem slightly childish at parts, but the overall story is great.

Jesus, I can't walk five feet without seeing this book somewhere. People at school have started actively sharing it amongst each other. At least three people in my English class are reading it every time we have a library session (doesn't sound like much but it's a small class). Everybody keeps saying to me "Have you read it? You should read it".

Generic Vampire-human romance book. He's not a very good vampire either, otherwise he'd have sucked out all her haemoglobin by now.

If you want a good book, read 1984.

Twilight wasn't the worst series I ever read but all this hype for it is completely idiotic.

It's average at best and doesn't deserve so many fans, only idiots call it "the best book ever", I'm not saying it's the worst thing you can ever read but I'd say you should only read the series if bored out of your fucking mind.

Every guy I know hates it (myself included). Every girl I know loves it. Take that for what you will.
