Poll: Sonic on the Virtual Console, help me decide.

I have never played a Sonic game in my life, shame on me.
Since most people think of the old Sonic games like milestones in gaming, I want to try one out and see for myself.
The problem is I don't know which one I should download on the Virtual console.
Can you help me out? Thanks a lot.

I know the recent games are supposed to be terrible, but I've put them as an option just in case.

You can get the Sonic Mega collection for the Gamecube.

It's got all the early Sonics. It'll work on your Wii, plus it and a cube controller will almost certainly cost less than buying off the virtual console. Grab it off amazon.

Don't buy any Sonic game made after Adventure, they are as bad as everyone says and then some...

Two was the best. Make sure you have someone playing Tails so you can send them into the frequent pits of doom to get rings.

I just quickly checked amazon and the cheapest version they have is $15.
I think I'll just spend 800 wii points (about ?8) just to try one game.

Well, just make sure you buy Sonic 2. 3's far too short and easy unless you've got Sonic and knuckles to go with it.

Sonic 2 if you have to choose, but you're gonna wish you got the collection if you end up liking it and wanting the others . Plus I'm sure that collection had a ton of games on it too, well worth the extra bit of cash.

How about you emulate one (sonic 2 is my recommendation) to see how you like it, then get the collection if you do?

This. On it there's Sonic 1, 2, 3, Sonic and Knuckles and a lot more.
But if you want one as a tester, Sonic 3 or Sonic & Knuckles are the best in my opinion.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles is the best game in the series, but I don't know if you can combine the two on the virtual console. The Mega Collection has it, although you have to unlock it. If you can only pick from the ones in the poll, go with Sonic 2.

The recent games aren't terrible,its just people haven't learned to use the joystick on they're controller!So they go and say it is bad just because they are clueless about joysticks and how to use them!~

I didn't even get why XPLAY put down Shadow The Hedgehog until I got Sonic Heroes....Sonic Heroes' had better graphics,and it was made 4 years before Shadow The Hedgehog!And I STILL do not get why people put down Sonic The Hedgehog 2006,I have played it,seen the cut-scenes,and all of that stuff!So it has a bad camera angle...well guess what?Just do what I did,learn to use the camera angle joy-stick.Sorry if this sounds like hate mail but I need to tell someone,I tried to post nearly the same thing on my blog but it didn't post and had nothing but a mess.~Miles

Mean Bean Machine is on collection which automatically makes it the best option. I still play the game on my game gear.
