Not to mention the millions of other dangers that no one thinks about that space presents. Radiation from the sun, astriods, not to mention simply getting there. We've launched so much trash into orbit that NASA is having problems finding ways to get through it. What's the point of space colonization? We'll wreck each planet we come to. :|

I'm all for it once we have the technology and resources to make life on other planets/moons comfortable.

We should definitely work towards space colonization now. That way when we actually need to send some people off Earth we aren't a bunch of headless chickens running around armed with nukes.

Ironically if we tried to adjust to global warming (Which IS going to happen either way, we just speed it up a bit) rather than trying to stop it, we'd develop all sorts of technologies that could help with colonizing or adapting to new planets/space.

It makes sense to do it as soon as possible really. 200 years time we just won't have enough space to fit everyone.

Why not, I'd love to live in space. It's just that people are morons who can't work togheter on anything.

You've also forgotten; Space-radiation, for wich there is no protection. Plus; zero-gravity turning our bones into jellie.
and the lack of atmosphere, the sub zero temperatures, and the fact that space is a vacuum...

I really don't think it would be worth it to live in space. All our resources would have to come from earth, We'd have to spend alot of money making it so that people could breathe up there (unless we find a planet with a similar atmosphere). Plus travelling back and forth would just take way too much time and money.

Another colony in this solar system will never be worth it.

Further out is too cold. Those rocks are dead like Mars. Further in is too hot. Not even machines can survive on Venus.

Getting to another star system is impossible with our current understanding of physics. We'll need something like teleportation or warp drive, because even light speed doesn't cut it fast enough. It might never happen.

i think we could colonize space, it's just we have this hang up of money and going to war. doing away with both would help out the world so much

Because there are too many nay-saying hippies too concerned with the wellbeing of the poor. Fools. There will always be poor people, and anyone demanding to sacrifice progress for the wellbeing of those who cannot support themselves is walking into the very mouth of damnation. And not the cool kind, either.

I see only one way for space colonization (or indeed, any travel further than we've already come), and that is a Star Trek-like utopia, where Earth is unified, and there's no such thing as war, poverty, racism etc. Only then will we have the recourses needed to colonize anything at all.

Dude its money, we could print the money needed if we fucking wanted to really.
Well, that's not how currency works... Money is a commodity just like oil or grain; if the bulk amount of it increases, then the average price of the commodity falls. It's one of the factors in inflation.

yeah, except no baseball, unless you wanna chance a cracked window(jest)and, for a religious opinion(religion is grand,I get to use it everywhere)the stars belong to god or somethin like that.do it in games and simulations all you want, but when your actually out there takin planets not your own,it don't go well, take red faction(yathzee does it well)and how the greedy colonists refuse to give any supplys and are forced into aggresive labor

Unfortunately not... If one country were to print bucket loads of bills, the value of the single bill would just decrease, compared to the rest of the world. That doesn't lead to any thing. That's why I mentioned the Star Trek utopia, where money doesn't exist, and they shure as hell travel in space.

i would devalue every currency on the planet if it meant GALACTIC SPACE TRAVEL, doth the block capitals not show my dedication? i am fully aware of the effects of doing such a thing, but goddamn it! i would do it!.

what if we print more money but dont tell anyone so the rates stay the same but we have more money (it may sound stupid but think about it )
