No this is not a versus thread so be still oh twitchy fingered ones.
There are usually 2 types of soldier, you have your genetically engineered super soldiers, ala Spartans and then you have your soldier whose abilities rely on the good old Bioware code of being one of the most skilled soldiers in that universe, ala Spectres. This does not necessarily mean Spectres in general but the idea that the protagonist is born to be a hero and has nothing to do with genetic modifications. So people such as Commander Shepard, Revan, The Gray Warden etc.
I prefer those Spectres over Spartans, it kind of adds a nice touch to that universe. Your character isn't amazing for being in a programme with 10,000 other people, your character is renowned because of determination, peserverance and a touch of luck. That's not to say that some super soldiers don't (just look at Master Chief, you don't become the last Spartan without having skill and luck).
