The 23rd of April is England Day. Our patron saint, who never even set foot in the Isles. Unlike other countries that celebrate the day, England has a history of not celebrating it like St Patrick is, worldwide.
Places like Barcelona, Beirut, Lebanon and Bulgaria cheer this "mighty hero" while we might wave a flag and dance round a maypole if we're REALLY pushed.
Scotland tends to push St. Andrew aside for Burn's night, and St. David's Day (Wales) simply marks a whole load of daffodils.
Australia and America both hold the Virgin Mary as their Saint, possibly because they're younger (in Christian terms)?
The thing is though - paradoxically - St George and his flag have been seen as the rallying of the far right, the new Reich, and this is more a case of them stealing it for their own cause.
So, tomorrow, dependent on your culture, what will you be doing?
