I've been wondering for a while how popular stand ups are, I'd rather watch one than a programme and seriously wondering if I'm the only one. I'm actually watching Dylan Morans (of Black Books fame) 'What it is', up next is Richard Pryors 'Live on the Sunset Strip.
I also recently bought Bill Baileys 'Dandelion Mind' too, which is a great improvement from 'Tinselworm'.

The only others I can think of is: Billy Connolly, Eddie Izzard, Ed Byrne, Robin Williams and Eddie Murphy.

There are loads out there, so who is your favourite?

(There was meant to be a poll, but I still haven't got the hang of this, whoops)

Jimmy Carr is my favorite. :)

I like stand up comedians. They (usually) make me laugh. :)

Eddie Izzard, Jimmy Carr, Russell Brand at times, Bill Bailey...

Does Tim Minchin count as a stand up comic? Due to the nature of his comedy I never really know, but if so, he's my favourite right now.

Also, Black Books is awesome.

George Carlin will forever be my favorite comedian. If I had to choose a living one however i'd go with either Eddie Izzard or Lewis Black.

Depends on your tastes. I like one liner comedians, like Milton Jones, Stewart Francais and Lee Mack. HOWEVER, i also like music based comedians like Tim Minchin, Bill Bailey, and surprisingly, Rich Hall! I like most in general though.
Good question!

How on earth did I forget about George Carlin? My apologies.

As for Tim Minchin, I don't find him that funny, but I know a lot of people that do. So I suppose he counts. And I agree about Bill Hicks, real shame.

Emo Philips, just amazingly funny. The awkward apperance, the strange voice, and the ability to tell a very funny joke.

Louis C.K., Mike Birbiglia, Brian Regan, Jim Gaffigan, and Lewis Black are probably my top favorites. With an honorable mention to John Pinnete (sp?). I like watching most comedians any way, but I'll go out of my way to watch these guys. Oh yeah, Mitch Hedberg too...

George Carlin repeated until text limit is reached! Every time I remember that he died I get a little pissed off and have to watch him on youtube, like now!

I loved George Carlin and Mitch Hedberg they were absolutely rofl-inducing for me. As for living comedians none really spring to mind, I used to LOVE Lewis Black, but then I saw him live a couple years ago and was seriously let down, the opening act was much funnier.

Also, I prefer Stand-up comedy to TV shows so most of the time if I'm flipping through the channels and I see a comic I've not watched yet, it takes priority over seeing what else is on

Louis C.K. is the funniest imo, and if you like his brand of comedy than Daniel Tosh is hilarious (although he's not for everyone). And Nick Swardson has some pretty funny shit to.

Jim Gaffigan. That man makes me laugh XD
Excellent choice. I love that guy's "food comedy".

However, my favorite comic would have to be this kid:

Funny, intelligent, messed up, fast paced humor... set to music! What's not to love?

Oh, and he actually got his start on the internet. This was back when he was sixteen or so. He recently got his own hour-long Comedy Central special, which is even more offensive than his 30 minute one.
