The Blizzard servers are too busy for me to purchase it online, so while I wait for everything to cool down, I thought I could get in the spirit by asking my fellow Escapists if you rather have a huge bulking army of lower tier units (kinda Zerg-style) or rather 3 massive units to kill everything that will try to touch you.

Personally I'm more of a Qaulity voter, because even though you do have to switch sometimes according to the situation, I have the tendency to make stronger units, or upgrade my weaker units instead of spamming marines or zerglings.

Let me hear your opinion.

I prefer quality. I find them easier to micro and so forth. Also the big units are are cooler than the low tier units, and i play for fun.

With enough marines, you can accomplish anything. That being said, some Thors might help.

well, there are many hard counters against marines, so I'm not sure.

The solution is obviously more marines.

I can't micro well enough to handle a bazillion crappy units, so in any RTS I'd be forced to go for a couple of strong ones.

It's why I love Dawn of War 2, it focusses on smaller groups. Shame Games for Windows Live is so incredibly shit (worst matchmaking ever) that I pretty much stopped playing DoW2 altogether.

I've always been a zerg rusher myself.

Mostly because I absolutely suck at RTS games, and so I just spend all my resources at producing the lowest level troops instead of upgrading.

When I was thinking of the options, why didn't I think about the zerg rush XD It's the core of every rush and spam ever, even more than a marine or a MM rush XD

And it doesn't matter if your good dude, just have fun

Void rays -> all, I've won more matches with 6 rays than with a full on frontal marine assault with 8 medivraks and 80 squishy troopers.

Unlike the AI I can't control massive numbers of units at once perfectly so I tend to rely on small groups of the most powerful units (with all their upgrades of course)

It's all about the zerg rush, always has been. While you're upgrading to make your big unit useful, I will already be in your base gnawing on your eyeballs. Possibly in the fashion of jujubes.

All other things being equal, I prefer quality. For the same reason I prefer accuracy and damage to rate of fire, and picking up every little thing that drops in Diablo II rather than just picking up certain items (because if I leave anything behind, I get what can best be described as an itch in my brain)
Just generally feels tidier to me.

Ahhhh, but you forget.Quantity has a quality all of its own. At least if you believe our old pal Stalin.

I am a poor tech strategist, I like to attack. Masses of cheap units harass until I can bring about a decisive push.

I'm always a fan of harrassing the enemy slowing their building down so I can build myself a massive army whilst they fend off my irratating units.
