I have played Dragon Age for at least 50 hours now, and never beaten it. I keep rerolling characters. The first one, a rogue, was severely hampered by the Dexterity glitch that most of you don't know existed, because you all got patches, while my Xbox was not connected to Live, so I couldn't even download Shale. The second one...well, let's just say that my healing mage whose only attack was Arcane Bolt got raped at the stupid Mage's Tower "Sloth Demon" sequence, and couldn't even beat it on casual. My third...I, *ahem", was mashing through a conversation that I'd heard twice before and seem to have accidentally told Sten to leave, but that was only 3-4 hours in. And I had saved before I noticed.

Basically, I've had a run of bad luck, but after beating Final Fantasy 13 on Tuesday, I'm ready to dive into it. Again.

So, what should I be? I got the game patched up, so I can be a rogue now. But I'd rather not be a Poison/Trap using rogue. I like rogues, but I'll only use it if I don't have to make poisons and traps to be effective with the character.

I will be a warrior, despite my anger at any player who was the incredibly generic, practically default "Human Noble Warrior". I'm definitely a Dwarf Noble. So, no origin suggestions. If I am a warrior, I'd rather be the attacker than the tank. Alistair handles tanking quite nicely. And I hear that Shale does, too.

So, what type of character should I be from the following:

Dual Wielding, Back Stab attacking DPS Rogue
Two handed weapons DPS Warrior
Sword and Shield Warrior
Dual Wielding Warrior

Oh yeah, please don't be a jerk and tell me to get the PC version, as I would have gotten it if I could have run it.

I played a Dual Wielding, NO!!! "Back Stab" (Waste of time) attacking DPS Rogue on hard, never had ANY trouble, i also played a healing mage on hard and breezed through the sloth demon bit, i then played a tanking warrior, only char that gave me any trouble and that was only in sloth demon, but i died twice and got through it

I've really enjoyed my DW warrior. They don't have the Awesome Power of two-handed, or the added def of shield, but I feel that DW is the most balanced skill set for the warrior. DW warrior are good against both groups and single enemies, but you'll probably want to take Wynne along to heal.

Ive always been a fan of the Dual Wielding Rogues or Warriors. If you have 2 hands, might as well use them :D

I played as a two handed sword wielding warrior and found that to be fairly good,I have been told by a friend, however, that playing as a Dual Wielding Warrior is good for an easy ride.

That's hard. I've played as a Duel wielding Warrior and Rouge, and iked them both quite a bit. But, once you get the Assassin+Duelist combo, along with the ability to backstab stunned enemies from the front and Dirty fighting ability, a Rouge becomes a deadly force.

Of course, I played on casual because I suck. BUT IT COUNTS.

I've almost finished a(100hr+) 'luke skywalker' play through with the human noble warrior and have since started games with other classes. The dual weapon Rogue forest elf has been ridiculously fun compared to the boring vanilla human warrior. It's cool how your different origins will affect certain battles/plot lines. Its enough to make you wanna play 6 times thru! .......now on to Awakenings....

I'm obliged to play though as Conan in any fantasy game sooner or later, so two handed swords all the way.

I played as 2h Axe weilding warrior Dwarf and found the game the most enjoyable. Its challenging without being incredibly hard and with Alistair tanking, Morrigan healing and a little bit of DPS and Zevran to open the chests worked quite well for me.

I'll go with DW warrior, it kicks major ass imo, also when you're higher level (doubled with champion) war cry gives a low-cooldown, almost-energy free very effective way to crowd control

Roll a dual-wielding back stab Assassin/Duelist Rogue with focus on Cunning. I did that on my second play through and I had lots of fun. At the end I used the two best daggers in the game and had Wynne use haste as well. I really enjoyed racing around, backstabbing at ridiculously high speeds while hitting for 100+ dmg. on almost every hit. And if I drew to much aggro I could just stun the enemies and keep critting. (Also, having paralyze runes + high attack speed = lots of stunned enemies = free crits.)

Edit: If you wondered I played on nightmare...

Same - I had a warrior with two handed weapons for my first run through. I never replayed as a warrior, so I don't know which out of those would be best: but I played through on hard difficulty and did fine. I think warriors are definately best for first run throughs; I probably wouldn't have done well if I'd gone through first time as rogue of mage.

hah only had to wait 4 posts for someone to say "rouge"

at OP: the dwarf noble gets a tiney bonus in sword and board i think, starter abilities change depending on race and origin, look it up on teh internetz. so if you cant decide go for min/maxing

My Dual Weild Rogue is probably my favourite character next to my Two handed Warrior, it really depends on what you like more.

This.... dual wield dagger backstab rogue was the most fun I had playing.... download the Return to Ostagar DLC and grab Duncan's dagger while you're in there... I used that thing for most of the game. Also, there's a phenomenal dagger for sale in Orzhammar for like, 148 G or something.

The dagger is Rose's thorn, pretty damn awesome, there's also a kickass dagger with the stone prisoner DLC when you do Shale's personnal quest (Dead Thaig shanker, interrupts spellcasting ^^)

Yeah, the Shanker is the one I switched out Duncan's Dagger for.... I ended up rolling the Shanker and the Rose's Thorn and I was dealing massive damage.
