Since I'm a casual gamer trying to expand my repertoire, I've recently picked up Steam and have always wanted an Xbox. So, I bought Skyrim on the computer, but after playing it, I feel like I would have a better time playing it on Xbox. So I thought that instead of shelling out more money for another copy, I could just log onto my Steam account on my Xbox and play from there. I've been doing some research, and it is possible that Steam could come to it but no major developments have been happening.

What do you guys think?

Well, first of all, it's never going to happen.
Different parties that don't want to share and all that.

But the idea.
I would love to see games becoming licences, instead of system based products.
You buy Skyrim, which means you could play it on any supporting system, cloud saves and all that.

But sadly this will never happen.

Jack an Xbox 360 controller into your PC. Skyrim/Steam should detect it automatically.

Absolutely! I'd love it, because we might actual get reasonably price for games when we want to download them, instead of what Games On Demand tries to charge for them.

It'll never happen though.

i would say 99% of multiplatform games can be played on the pc using a controller, which it's essentially plug n play (although sometimes it's better to plug in the controller before you start the game, sometimes the game might not detect it if it's already running.)

and on top of that, tons of games allow you to do it anyways, so when in doubt, just plug it in and try it out!

Yeah, just make sure its a wired controller, and not just a wireless one with a charging cord. It won't work. That said, Valve (which owns an operates Steam) is working on a console-like PC for use in the living room. Don't forget to use your controller to try out the newly introduced Big Picture mode, so you can sit back in your chair and navigate all of Steam with your controller!

When you start getting bored of Skyrim, by all means look into modding it, but that's something for another topic on another day.
