Hey everybody I wrote a book! *silence* *more silence* *gets off the table in shame*
Anyways, I`ve started a new book (third one) and since my mother is forcing me to write it in english I`ve decided to post the introduction here on the forums. Is just a bit of text that introduces the guy who`s the main character and basiclly the entire book. Just wanted to know what you would think about the story You can be honest about your opinion, but not BRUTALLY honest (please?).
STEVE IS DEATH
Book 1: All the little things.
Introduction
If you are reading this you are a curious person, not only for the sole act of actually reading in a world where, I fear, reading is starting to vanish from the mind of the masses, but also you are curious because you decided to read a book where you already know almost everything there is to know of its main character Steve.
Steve was born one hundred years ago, and died ninety- nine years ago as well; he didn?t have that wonderful experience about death most people talk about, he never saw anything fly by his eyes the last moment of his life, he didn?t get to see his highest moments, and didn?t get to regret his lowest ones. And just because of this, Steve was the perfect candidate to be what in the other world is called: a ?retriever?. The closest thing you could understand as a grim reaper, well don?t act surprised, did you really imagine that only ONE otherworldly being could take care of the deaths of six billion people, that is too much work.
So, to this matter, we have the retrievers, they don?t get to kill their victims of course, life takes care of deaths just well, their job is to seek, retrieve and escort souls to wherever you think souls go. But as amazing and rare as this may sound after a ninety three years of doing it, as everything else in life, it becomes routine, and routine can depress anyone, especially someone whose job is to collect souls to the other world. Steve, be it that he is death, has no face, his body is completely made of a dark substance, almost gelatin like, and his eyes are to big white spots.
He is pretty damn short, because at a certain point the retrievers stop aging, he decided to stop his aging at age sixteen, he regrets this every day. To work Steve wears a long dark blue cloth, old and worn out; over his head a big gray cloud stalks him, raining on the constant ?parade? that is his life, this cloud, of course, is completely imaginary.
Every morning Steve wakes up in his grave, takes a slow stroll around the graveyard, then puts on his cloth and takes his standard scythe model 105 which is as dangerous to anyone as a pair of paper scissors. He then proceeds to pick up his ?list? which is in basic terms a small paper with names and a time line, he is to follow a person until this timeline is over, the end of the timeline, clearly, means the end of this person`s life.
After doing his job for so long, Steve has seen just about every type of death, he is now bored with all of them, when he looks at humans and follows their routine, there is where Steve finds some sort of sick amusement. You see, to Steve, humans are strange behaving creatures, they?re entire lives move around obtaining objects, and making certain goals for themselves, to them it?s all about making themselves belief that they had achieved those dreams, Steve had a little game in which he tried to guess or find out his targets dreams and goals, when his ?client? passed away he eventually would ask what was their goal in life, sadly most people forget those mundane things when they meat the peace of death, or in other words, when they met Steve.
But Steve is not the only one involved in this story, and he does have what he likes to call ?a friend? Steve?s friend is named Hat, and this, is by al means, a literal expression, and no, he is not An Actual hat, he lives in a big old house next to Steve?s graveyard. Hat is a writer of about 25 years of age, he has spend most of his time carefully wasting away the fortune he made with his first and only successful book ?The midnight race of the dead?.
He is very strange, even to Steve, there is basically one reason for this, its because, in the small community of the retrievers located in Heatland (not an actual place) they call this young man, ?the luckiest dead human? this in fact because Hat, was supposed to die seven years ago during a mysterious cardiac arrest he had, since he has survived that a most curious of things happened: one, he is now able to perfectly see the retrievers, and two he`s ?time line? has become infinite, what this means is still unknown to everyone in the other world, and Hat himself doesn?t really give it much care anyways ?If I`m to die let it happen, if I`m to live let me enjoy it? would answer Hat when Steve asked him about this.
This is all you really need to know about Steve, boring I know, but he is Steve nonetheless, and soon, his boring life will take an unexpected turn. Now I leave you to a story about death, crushes, the otherworld and by all means, Steve....
