Poll: Straight women and not-so-straight men! What is your opinion on male chest-hair?

This is one thing that has always intrigued me (because my life is just so jam-packed full of interesting stuff that I have the time to ponder this shit). It would seem, passively, that a man without chest hair is considered generally more attractive that a man with chest hair, certainly in the western world. For example, you rarely see a hairy-chested male underwear model do you. However, I've never actually heard anyone I know outright say that they find chest hair on a man unattractive. Now, is this because it's just a generally accepted part of our sexual culture that the vast majority prefer hairless chests, and as such it's not a matter that warrants discussion, or is it because actually, far more people are attracted to, or at least not in any way put off by, chest hair than our typical image of the 'Hot Guy' would suggest?

Personally, as a straight man, I'm actually quite jealous of other guys that can easily grow a lot of chest hair, as I see it as quite a masculine trait. However, that's not a question of attractiveness, which is why I'm asking all of you.

I'd pick a hairy chest over a waxed one any day.

I don't like too much hair but I don't think I could ever go for a guy who had a bare chest. It would be weird. I don't like back hair or chest hair that you can see over the neck of a t-shirt but after that I'm not too fussed.
If a guy naturally had a small amount of hair that would be fine, just not bald.

Option... 3.

I can probably do a little. But it has to be barely there. The equivalent of stubble if that's possible.

Basically, I don't want there to be enough hair that I can grip in my fingers. There should not be that much hair.

Another thing I wanted to add but missed out in the original post. If it turns out that most people either don't care about, or are actively attracted to chest hair, then why do you think we've found ourselves in a situation where the media will for some reason never portray chest hair as an attractive trait on a man?

The funny thing is that just a few years ago excessive chest hair was exceedingly desirable:

TV stars:

Rock Stars:

Movie Stars:

War Stars:

But then it was the 80's.

I was talking more specifically about the last decade or two. The James Bond we have now is Daniel Craig, and the image of him and his decidedly hairless chest emerging from the sea in Casino Royale is from what I can tell regarded as one of the sexiest scenes in modern film from a female perspective.

I've only just accepted beards but chest hair is too much of a big step for me. I suppose a little doesn't hurt, but masses of hair is typically a turn off for me.

Straight female here. I don't find body hair attractive. Apart from (some) facial hair, I just can't stand it. I suspect it's partly because I hate the feel of it. Heck, I can't stand the stuff on my own arms or legs.

Doesn't much matter, though. Feel free to be as hairy or not hairy as you wish. I'm more interested in personality over looks, anyway. Not a fan of those people who demand their boyfriend/girlfriend/whatever look a certain way in order to please them.

I generally find chest hair pretty attractive - not masses of it, I'm not attracted to Wookiees, thank you. But if you've got a fuzzy chest, or if you haven't, it's all good. I don't know about totally hairless chests on guys though. That seems sort of odd, in some way. Could be because I've never met a guy with a hairless chest.

Really though, like DktrAgonizer [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/DktrAgonizer] said above, personality beats looks any day.

Doesn't matter much to me, I'd go for either.
I couldn't tell you why, though. Guess I'm just not very picky.

As a bisexual male with a relatively fuzzy carcass I approve of fuzziness and find it fairly attractive.

It depends on the guy, really. If a guy is excessively muscular, chest hair doesn't really work for me, it's not that I want to see the definition it's just... the addition of hair is just too much. A chubbier guy with chest hair is just fine and thinner guys could probably go either way.

Probably because underwear models looks best with a shaved chest to show off the muscle definition they worked so hard for, but your average guy obviously isn't an underwear model and shaving your chest just becomes excessive grooming for no real gain. The 'situation' isn't really a good reflection on reality because the media usually only shows certain types of guys without their shirts. This shaved chest trend probably started back in the 80's with your muscle bound action stars. There's a reason why you see say Daniel Craig without his shirt, but not Samuel L. Jackson.

I gotta say that it's not a realistic reflection of a lot of guys either, I'm fairly lean with some nice muscle definition nowadays since I started dieting and working out a lot but I can tell you that being hairless would take like an entire week of my life at a time to maintain, because I'm male and I run almost entirely on testosterone and willpower.

Being both a viking and a highlander I has hair, and I'm adapted for the cold and fighting bears, so I has more than a bit of hair.

Fuck shaving it or waxing it, I'd waste too much of my life in pursuit of vanity, though I do shave my underarms and keep my pubic area trim for self esteem reasons.

From time to time I tend to shave my chest hair mostly because I dislike having hair there a lot of the time and don't suit a beard or moustache.

Also don't really like hairy hands XD.

It depends upon the guy really. At least in my opinion. If he's particularly baby-faced or feminine then no hair. It ends up looking very...wrong...like it clashes. But for an older looking more masculine male then yeah I don't mind some fuzz, but if he looks like he's trying to take the wookie's job in the next star wars movie then...no. Just...no...

But of course this is all very general and any guy can be as furry or as non-furry as he likes. Their hair not mine.

i prefer my men hairy and burly, it's the way i want to be, and it's sort of the most natural look for men when you think about it.

there's also something inherently adorable about two men who look like they could chop down a Sequoya with their teeth cuddling up to one another romantically <3
